Or wherever anyone else wants to explode

Would it be too much to hope you might be able to write a song or two, have a couple of rehearsals, develop creative differences, detox, decide that ‘the music is the most important thing’, and even settle who’s going to play which instrument on which song, all in time for you to headline Lithstock? Only, a festival really isn’t a festival unless a bona fide Legendary Gig is taking place as the sun is setting.

It’s a booking, boys and girls, if you want it. Headline slot. I might even be able to organise some lighters for everyone to brandish during the slow song, and some fireworks and glitter for when you rawk out at the end. Don't people join bands for the chance of one day having a Legendary Gig?

Well sav, I was going to moan about the fact that virtually my entire life I've wanted to be a musician, but have always felt this wasn't possible because aged 13 my cello teacher told me "there's no point in continuing with lessons because you simply have no gift for music".

And she'd taught Jacqueline du Pre once so she must know what she was talking about, right?

Motherfucking authority figures. Motherfucking lack of backbone. Arrrgh.

Damn. That's like Lisa Simpson getting told she had stubby fingers.

Start a band anyway. I didn't start a band until i was 23. I know some guys who didn't start one until they were in their mid-30's, and they're doin' fine.

I know what you mean Jeffe..

I regret daily that when I was little my parents didn't drag me away from video games and force me to undertake a course of sadistic music lessons..

As it is it's like you can hear people talking in this fantastic language and understand them perfectly, but you can't join in the conversation cos you don't know how to construct a sentence..

til 23? awwwesome, and here I was feeling miserable for starting with the guitar so late, nineteen that is (two years ago) and then even worse upon meeting this band wires on fire that consists of eighteen year-olds and one nineteen year-old and already they're playing at the troubadour and opening for well known bands...

wait hold on I had to come back, Jefe, what she was really saying was that you could be one of the worlds greatest musicians its just that you just have to want it. I mean couldn't she have said the same to Django Reinhardt for having only two functioning digits to fret with? I need to be a musician, but I understand I also need the drive and devotion-and quit bitching about not starting early enough-you know, instead of fucking off and wasting time with useless video-games or what have you. eh.

Yeah, hence the "lack of backbone" comment.

Two tears in a bucket - it's water under the bridge anyhow.

I'm 25 and I've only just started.

I met a bloke in Boston in his thirties who had only decided to pick up a guitar two years ago. He is now a demi-god of the Robert Fripp school. And he did it because he loved music. No other reason. That was good enough for me.
