Can't be doing with London traffic, so I don't see me taking up cycling. With swimming, I can get into the near-hypnotic monotony, and start to enjoy the up-down, up-down - and I'm not sure I'd get the same from cycling.

Post 'ideal weight'? Well, a big part of the experience, for me, has been establishing in my own mind that I can influence the rate at which I gain or lose weight, and an appreciation of the timescales and 'effort' involved. I now know, for example, that if I eat X for Y days, I'll gain or lose Zkg. I think that's been valuable because I've always tended to be rather fatalistic about my diet. Small fluctuations are fine, as long as they go both ways. Noticing the moderating effect of exercise has been useful too.

So... I suspect I'll schlep along with this modified version for a while yet. I'll likely get more fully back into fruit and fruit juices but I don't anticipate a return to bread/potatoes/rice (barring foreign holidays, I guess) anytime soon. It's just too nice being able to fit back into sausage-effect trousers.
