Noticed: in those pages you never see a whole human face in close up - s'always cropped. Nice effect, I think.
You're right Suedehead my man -- it's a damn nice effect.
Chris Ware did a lot of stuff in some parts of Jimmy Corrigan where people's faces were pushed off-panel/obscured in order to direct your focus and also to emphasise the sense of isoltion in the book, and this strikes me as being a similar technique, albeit one with a slightly different purpose. It's a good way off putting you with the animals in terms of perspective and sympathy, no? I wonder how much of the rest of the book will be like this?
Quitely is king (I wouldn't worry too much though Cameron -- your Seaguy art has a feel to it that I don't think anyone else could have pulled off quite as well as you did), and if Morrison's writing is as good as it was in Seaguy #1 then I'm gonna be one very happy punter come August! |
