Awwwww!

...while both We3 and Vinanarama are slated for August and early 2005, respectively.

As for We3, a tad more about the three-issue miniseries was revealed, including that it’s a view of The Incredible Journey as only Grant Morrison could imagine it – three ultimate cyborg assassins: a dog named Bandit, a cat named Tinker, and a rabbit named Pirate, armed with missiles, poison gas, state-of-the-art computer technology, rapid fire chain guns and unbreakable exo-skeletons.

Described as a “heartbreaking adventure,” the three issue mini is drawn by Frank Quitely.

shit!

and is this really Quitely? inking or colouring may have changed it a bit because it doens't look like him that much.

That's cause unlike his human characters these animal character all have different faces.

Looks great, though.

I wonder if Ian McDonald's "Floating Dogs" was an inspiration?

"Floating Dogs," by the way, being a short story about a military squad of IQ-enhanced cyborg animals on a suicide mission, who don't really understand that they're just tools in a human-orchestrated war.

It's Quitely - I've seen a bunch of pages from issue 1 and it's spectacular stuff.

Whoa, whoa, whooooooa! "Chain guns"?

Quitely-drawn chain fights! W000000T!

Actually, I think that just means those guns with extremely long belts of ammunition.

Either way. Totally tits.

This may have been asked before, but I had to check. Given that: we know FQ is a pseudonym; there are very few people who do Morrison so well as these two; Cam seems to know exactly what is going on; I have to ask this:
Cameron, are you really Quitely doing a very different art style?

This seems quite interesting. I wasn't going to buy this before, but it's Morrison! It's Quitely! It's giant animal-inhabited robot warriors! But yeah, the art here looks a little...off.

Should be fun, though. Anyone else think the name is one big U2 joke, somehow?

Frank Quitely is a very nice bloke named Vince who lives in Glasgow. I met him one time at SCAM, the Scottish comics creators' drinking thing. I was pissed oot me skull, but did manage to convey the idea that I thought Flex Mentallo was better than sex on toast.

He took it very well.

I don't *think* that he's Cameron.

Do we know that he isn't Cameron?

Have they both been seen at the same time?

Trust me, this is one panel, and admittedly not the very best one to show. The stuff I've seen is really just fucking phenomenal, top-form Quitely.

As for whether I'm really FQ - I doubt it. But then again, I've been having these weird blackouts lately, and I sometimes find inexplicable plane tickets and empty bottles of Irn-Bru in my rubbish bin...

I like how Bandit has the forepaws of his exo-suit crossed. Just like my old dog [if it was a robot]

Hell...this may be the best Morrison thing I've ever heard of. I was blown away by that amazing picture in Wizard...and now I find out the killers are animals...hell...this cannot come out soon enough...

Cam, do you know if Frank is digitally inking his own stuff ala NXM's Riot At Xaviers arc?

i've had a shit day so far. thank christ for grant morrison.

reckon we3's gonna be my favourite comic book this year. nice to see he's bringing talking animals back to dc comics. its a crueller world without them.

Triplets - Yes, Vince has eschewed traditional inking for We3 and is having his ultra-tight pencils scanned and cleaned up in Photoshop by a partner. I've seen the results and you'd never know it wasn't inked. Looks great.

What this means for a dinosaur like me, who still insists on using old school brushes and ink, I have no idea...

Triplets, Vince is Frank Quitely's real name. FQ is a play on quite frankly, I'm not sure why he chose to go for an alias.

CameronStewart
23:35 / 04.05.04
I think Triplets knew that, which is why there's a winky-smiley at the end of the question.

As far as I know the Frank Quitely alias was invented for his old adult humour comic Electric Soup, because he didn't want his family to know he was doing that kind of material, and it just stuck. I may be wrong, but that's the story I've heard.

Sheesh, maybe I AM Quitely after all, answering all these questions.

I read in an interview a while back, where Frank said he used the alias name because he didn't want people who knew him to see the type of stuff he was drawing when he first started out.I guess it just stuck after that.Did any one else read that?

hm, digital ink then? know more about this process, Cameron?

the artist of one of my comics used mixed old skool and photoshop to some very intersting results [mostly unnoticed to me].

[if that's no too boring for you to go through]

Summink bad'll happen to the dog first.

Dogs are ALWAYS shorthand.

Although, this being GM, the unpleasant fate that awaits the cat will await until the end.

And everyone'll cry more for the cat than the dog. Which is SO not fair.

Nah, what'll happen is that members of b3ta will hack in to Quitely's inking machine and Photoshop all the kittens back into Mo Mowlam or something.
