*Stands up, clears throat*

My name is Mordant Carnival, and I did not find The Invisibles to be a huge headfuck. I mean, I liked it and all, but I'd come across a lot of the underlying ideas and concepts before.

*Shuffles feet*

Um, same with The Matrix, really. Thanks.

*Sits back down*

Haha! I love the *shuffles feet* and the *sits back down* bit.

I think it's cool that you shared this with us Mordant.

My name is Todd, and nothing has ever fucked my head. Nor my mind. Is it okay for me to remain un-headfucked at the age of 28? Or should I seek out a head-fucking experience as soon as possible? Will people look down on me for remaining unfucked in the head? Or is it okay?

Err...well...I really just like it for the story and the pictures. I mean, not that I didn't pick up on the concepts or anything, but primarily, really, I just, err...like it...for the pictures.

Um.

Not only did it neither fuck my head, nor boggle my mind, but I thought it was inconsistent in terms of quality, and not very emotionally engaging. Also, Ragged Robin is a bit rubbish.

*Stands up feeling wierd and paranoid like everyones watching*

*looks around a little*

I think it's brilliant and everytime i look at one of the TBP's i've got or the comics, it's like looking into another world and is more or less certain to hand me a thread or two that i can follow that leads to real world magickal happenings. If i read loads of it Kansas is kissed bye bye. Exactly what i got it for.

*Feels even wierder*

*Grins and then doesn't give a fuck*

*Sit's back down*

I liked it. As a comic book. Just like I like Empire Strikes Back as a film, and Illuminatus! as a book. And I liked Matrix (can't remember the suffix, but the second one) as a film. Especially the cars and stuff.

The Invisibles fucked with my head a little bit, but more for its weird-ass narrative structure than for any Big Ideas. My life was unchanged.

Stranger in a Strange Land fucked my head up good when I was 13. I was all, "Whoah, if you were raised in a totally alien culture, you'd be, like, totally alien! But not!" and then I had to lie down.

But I also hear a tiny ferocious snarl deep in my heart whenever one of you guys mocks someone for being crazily enthused about the Invisibles or anything else. It makes me want to bight your lips off. Defender of the innocent, me.

Oy, you, 'Maitreya' or whatever it is you're calling yourself for this group, how dare you come here on false pretences? You didn't not find the Invisibles to be a life-chaging experience! You're a support group tourist! Get out!

Funny you should say that Kit-Kat, i just PM'd Mordant apologising. I completely forgot about the reason why the thread was here and ranted anyway because i wanted to do the *stands up* and *sits down* thing.

Totally obsessed.

The Invisibles tries to cram too much in but I like the bit in the diner and it's a fun read.

*stands up*

Now, come on, how can a group of people who like to dress up and shoot people fuck with your head? I mean after years of ridiculous conspiracy theory on mainstream television you'd have to be pretty darn susceptible to absorb any of that as truly weird.

oh man! The world is spinning around around me, such blasphamy! My eyes are burning from reading such evil.
All of you should be ashamed of yourselves...

*shaking finger in rebuke*

No, its cool if you guys dont feel superior to everyone else becuase you have read the invisibles or 'understand' the matrix, in fact, I find it refreshing. I myself have only realized that my tastes in literature and films dont really give me a one up on others in being smart, and it was one of those humbling moments as I tried to explain what was happening in the last matrix to someone who just couldnt care, infact after all was said and done, I looked dumb. thus, I am reborn, a little better for my experiences.

Je suis un Chimp, and The Invisibles didn't change my life. I mean, my life was very different when I finished reading it, but I think that had more to do with me being six years older and at university and in love and stuff like that, rather than any particular effect attributable to any particular comic book.

*coughs*

err... Is it biscuit time yet? Or do we have to kick the shit out of the tourist first?

But I also hear a tiny ferocious snarl deep in my heart whenever one of you guys mocks someone for being crazily enthused about the Invisibles or anything else.

But I'm not mocking. I'm genuinely starting to suspect that I've got a bit missing somewhere, because everyone else is all "Invisibles! Headfuck!" and I'm not.

And if you try to bite my lips off I'll stick your head in a microwave.

I bought the first four issues of The Invisibles. Then the art turned shit. Every time I get this feeling that I might have missed something and look at the TPBs in a shop, I decide not to buy one because of the awful artwork.

I had a letter in issue #4 I think.

I.... I.... I really really wanted Grant Morrison to be the comics messiah. But it turns out he wasn't.

[Stands]
The idea that the world ends in 2012 is worryingly attractive.
[Mumbles from audience]
It removes from me the responsibility I thought I always had to sort the world out myself.
["It's just a fookin comic"]
I love comics more than any other art form I have come across, and I think that despite its messy drawing (a friend described it as 'your favourite film re-directed by your least favourite directors') I still think it's one of the best comics ever written.
Doom Patrol was great (but later suffered awfully from the Pollack) and Flex Mentallo is perfect (but no-one will ever see it). Morrison is still my favourite writer.
["Sit down ya poof"]
Show me another person who could spawn such a board as this without even liking it very much or being involved...
[Mumbles]
Yea, and though I walk through the valley of baby tapirs I shall fear no Millar, I....
[Looks around. Falls over. Bottles of cheap Origin rose trundle out from under seat.]

Weeeelll, I thought it was quite a good comic, a-a-and I brought it every month when it came out, t-till it finished, interesting, fun, but it was j-ju-just a story. Okay, it was leavened some of Grant's experiences but, like, so what? People are always having weird experiences.

*looks round nervously*

As to the whole December 23, 2012 thing? GM just grabbed it as a fun idea the same way he grabbed a million others. I think he'd be be fuckin' horrifed if he saw a load of people taking it even semi-seriously. That day will come and pass like a million "other ends of the world" in history.

I really hate the idea actually, It's half inched off Terence McKenna or Robert Anton Wilson, one of whom worked out that information will be doubling expoentially by that date. How the fuck in the name of Beelzebub, did that ridiculous idea ever get taken seriously by anyone? What information is supposedly to be doubling? How do we know? How is this measured? Less DMT, more critical thinking, please Terence.

Actually, when faced with people who take the Invisbiles far too seriously, I need anger management.

*gritting teeth*

Take it seriously all you want but just FUCK OFF and stop rotting the board with half arsed psychedelic drivel..

You dont know how long I've waited for this thread. I felt so alone *sniff*.

I bought the first TPB (despite the crap art ) "say you want a revolution", and was distinctly underwhelmed. And yes, I'm sure i might get more out of it if i read the whole series, but thats a fiscal gamble i'm not willing to take.

I should note, however, that i LOVED Flex Mentallo.
