So anybody up for one? I usually take a long time to get these things out, but I like to do them. If I owe anyone a tape or cdr from a while ago just email and I'll get one out right soon. So, anyone interested in sharing some songs? I listen primarily to:

Punk
Free Jazz
Avant Garde
Metal
Pysch
Onkyo

I'm up. I've got a nutty mix-CD I like to call "Love in the Time of Rainforest-Dwelling MegaSquid" if you're up for it.

message me your address. What's Onkyo?

Onkyo is music made with mixing desk feedback. It's a Japanese term meaning sound reverberation (or something like that)...some of it is kind of similar to an even more stripped down version of the Chain Reaction / Profan / Max-Ernst stuff...some of it sounds like, um, mixing desk feedback.

Oh, and Locust, if you are interested in any of the stuff I mentioned above I'd be happy to exchange a CDR of German techno-dub minimalism (or whatever) for a CDR of crazy jazz...

As ever, I'm totally in for any Cd/tape swapping..

I've been thinking of doing a CD of awesome spaced out stoner rock and psychedelic weirdness - kind of music to travel over the waves of dream in a ghost pirate ship to..

And a kick-ass garage rock comp. has also been on my mind, although Saveloy beat me to the punch by making an absolutely AWESOME one which you should all bother him about getting..

Or, thirdly, how about a metal mix CD.. I've been wasting more time than is strictly healthy recently dredging the underworld of metal for particularly fun or interesting stuff, so a CD of it all might add up to pretty crazy listening..

And of course if one genre CDs aren't yr. thing, I'm always ready to glue together a few cool multi-genre CDs at short notice - expect all of the above plus plenty of skewed indie-punk, avant-noise-punk type destruction, lo-fi/antifolk type singer-songwritery-ness, fun rock n' roll junk, unclassifiable weirdness and maybe even scary stuff like electronica and hip-hop and so on..

..I sound rather too much like a used car salesman don't I? Well never mind.

Oh, and Locust's mixes absolutely rule btw.

things i learned today: Onkyo.

i am very interested in some of the things being discussed here, but i'm not sure what i have to offer in return.

i've kind of got a glitchpop/lounge/IDM/kind of low-key but poppy weirdness/maybe some theremin? mix brewing in my head. i'm not sure if it's percolated yet. also, i've wanted to put together a mix of hip-hop that people listened to in my high school cafeteria back in the early 90s, like Black Sheep, EPMD, LL Cool J, early Cypress Hill, maybe some Brand Nubian or Grand Puba solo stuff. that's probably closer to being ready if anyone is interested.

I shall be well up for swapsies as soon as I've finished sorting the demnable Les Waters thing out (current eta: Friday).

I've got some old mixes listed here, which I would be happy to copy. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on a mix title to see the track listing.

This is the kick-ass garage rock one that Riz mentioned

also, i have a good assortment of early 90's industrial/grindcore/free jazz stuff that could be fun to go through and make one really crazy cd out of.

Saveloy -- I'd like to trade something for the Animals Parading Without Clothes disc, if only to hear what on earth Raoul Julia might sound like. I've got nothing near as odd a collection as you've got, but then perhaps something unlike what you have already might be nice. Are you in the UK (I'm not)? I'm not sure how to send money for postage. Has somebody figured that part out yet?

I'm probably awfully mainstream compared to most people here, but have interesting odds and ends; bar my bootlegs/cover versions obsession, which you'd probably get dosed with on any mix cd from me, I'll do jazz, hip-hop, dance (mainly downbeat and deep house), rock, whatever, and keep it coherent.

I'm not sure I'd give anything else away here; all I do know is that people have liked my last mix cds an awful lot. I've got one kicking around - an after hours/chillout compilation - that covers odds and ends of Blur, Underworld, Gemma Hayes and Kings of Convenience remixes.

I'd be quite up to hearing what you listen to, Locust TT. Can offer in return a mash up of various rock, hip hop and weird odds and sods. Can offer a pretty nice selction of early reggae and rocksteady. I'll PM you.

I'm up for that! There's loads of stuff I don't have, you could probably bung anything on a disc and most of it will be new to me. As far as postage is concerned, I think most people just send their discs to each other and assume that they're both incurring more or less the same cost, so no money needs to be sent.

If you'd like to send me a private message with your address, I'll sort it out.

I'm up for hearing anything you can call music. I can probably only offer a (badly) mixed bag of things you've already heard. I mostly listen to noisy repetitious rock, oddball hiphop and microscopic electronica. PM me if you're feeling generous.

OK, one for Saveloy and one for Qalyn/Massykr, ready to post tomorrow. Expect to receive them in a week or so.

I'd love to swap a covers CD or tape with anyone.

I'm also hungering after Saveloy's garage comp (I recognize Psychotic Reaction and Beaver Patrol and I think that's about it).

And I'm willing to swap Locust anything for a good Albert Ayler (or similar) comp. Very curious about him.

Thank'ee! I really look forward to getting that. I'll be sending your disk on Tuesday, as part of a massive postal splurge.

No problem, Sir, I'll bung a copy in with the Les Waters CD. I should probably say that it's not all original 60s garage, but it's all of that ilk / in the same spirit. I reckon you'll really like Potato Chip..

Covers CD, yeah.

I was just listening to a friend's copy of Robyn Hitchcock's double disc Robyn Sings, which is all Bob Dylan covers. Pretty good ones, too.

Eep. I still haven't done the dubby / glitchy CDR promised to Locust, Sav and Illmatic. I have a pile of records set out and a list of tunes and just need to actually, y'know, record it.

Bonus CDR of shouty / grrr / electronic / Soundmurderer / Tigerbeat nonsense to them that wants it in an attempt to excuse my tardiness.

Actually, I've completely forgotten to make CDs for the people I promised them to in this thread..

I got so obsessive about getting the perfect tracklisting for my psychedelic CD that a)it turned into a double CD and b)I never finished it.

Sort of the 'Smile' of mix CDs.

OK, I started this thread a while back.

First, my sincere apologies to everyone I promised a mix to but didn't end up sending. I don't have much of an excuse other than the general unease of industrial living. However, now that I know I'm in one place for the next few months I'll gladly send anyone a cdr or two. People familiar with my taste in music will know that it'll be, um, ecletic stuff. I'm not sure anyone cares anymore but if you do, send me a pm or something. New trades are always welcome.

The reemergence of this thread has also served to remind me that I promised a coupla people a "best of 2005" CD a month or two back and, er, proceeded to completely forget about it.... so, apologies.

Past CDs and tapes from Locust have never been anything less than extraordinary, so I shall be taking him up on the above offer too.

Yep, Count me in! All I have to offer really for starters is some original stuff from my hometown, Brisbane. I want your local acts in return & I don't care how shit you reckon they are either.

I am an Audio Engineer(hobbyist) and I have a few local acts I recorded/mixed/had_something_to_do_with on scattered DAT's lying around I can zap onto a disk. It's all different, from Dub Reggae to jazz grindcore to punk and a bit of grunge for good measure. Couldn't miss this chance for some shameless self promotion now could I??? Oh, Support Your Local Scene!

Ah yes, even though I started This Thread for 2006 mix-swappings, I too have been rubbish and not done mine (or chased up requests, or PM-ed more people...) I should probably bump it, for all-purpose swapping needs this year. I'll be after one of those Locust CDs I reckon, though.

I'd love to to a mix tape trade with someone. I put on a DJ night called Harder Faster Louder that plays the most brutal, extreme music across a range of genres (gabber, dark D&B, hardcore, grind, noise). I was thinking of doing a mix tape named after the night and with similar content.

Anyone want to trade a tape/CD for it? Message me if you do.

I'm always hesitant about getting involved with Barbemixes because they seem to be dominated by people who don't like pop and clubby dance music in all their glorious variations. I mean, would I have come across anything remotely like the Postal Service or Broken Social Scene or The Shins or the Juan Maclean? And how often do female vocalists make it onto these things? It's just my impression, but my impression is not a lot.

Of course, none of that's to say that I wouldn't like a lot of what makes it onto the compilations, just that I'm not sure any contribution I would make would be appreciated.

Tell me about your barbemix experiences. Am I wrong?
