Gee, and I thought it would be such a good idea to go and get pissed before joining this party. No, don't tell me what's already happened - 2 pages back in the thread is like, so yesterday.

Thanks Tom. Christmas comes early this year, yes? You like woolly socks or will a gift certificate suffice?

No worries Tom, I trust that you'll sort it all out eventually. Just getting my crankiness out of the way all at once on what I pay the most attention to. Really, the look is all entirely secondary to me to ease of navigation and other such concerns. Cause while all the kudos are nice, I know its the gripes that are the most useful for ideas for further improvement. And I'm a champ griper. Took 3rd place in the state finals.

Actually, Tom, I'm curious -- why did you decide to have all the forum titles in a single band down the middle (well, left-middle) of the screen?

That seems to be the most profound design difference, and I'm curious as to what you thought it may do.

It already seems to have changed the way I approach the different fora -- I'm actually more inclined to go from, say, Head Shop directly to Books, rather than do the Revolution fora first and the Spectacle stuff after. I think this is because with the two-column layout, the Spectacle area fit nicely on one screen without having to scroll up or down.

that's actually one of my favorite aspects of it. it just wouldn't work directly in the middle, and it needs the negative space on the right. it would just look wrong without it.

So does anyone else think a rollover/dropdown out on the main page for the latest topics is a good idea?

*hits post reply and then runs from potential wrath of the Tom*

GAH! I go away for just a little while and everything goes wonky on me!

Me likes it. Sort of reminds me of the packaging for old Activision Atari 2600 games. I yam a true chile of the late '70's/early '80's.

You are so right. I realise now why I like it.

What we also need is a front page with an exciting-looking cartoon version of what's inside which bears no resemblance at all to what you get on screen upon loading.

That alligator pond looks rather unsound, structurally. Hope we have nothing like that around here.

Then again...

I aim to have that front page up within a few weeks. The rainbow contains links to the various areas of the board, much as it does now. Clicking on each of the alligators will make them bite Harry on the arse, their teeth leaving an imprint of the last active thread. The pile of gold bars takes you to the Paypal donations link (although there's a bug in the current version that causes a sample of someone screaming "Functionality is number one! Functionality is number one!" to play through your speakers over and over again, pulling the plug being the only way to stop it). Selecting the scorpion will lead to the creation of a random thread devoted to Grant Morrison. Nice and smooth. Successfully swing Harry into the hole and you'll be granted access to the secret moderators' board.

Love the look by the way!

Fucking brilliant. Make sure Harry has the digitized Tarzan yell when he swings across. Maybe have George Lucas pop up with copyright infringement subpoenae; if you bop him on the head quickly enough you get redirected to a secret stash of bug porn.
