Nice. That kind of startled me, though!
Me likey. I'm gonna go play for a bit.

Hurrah the new!

Be warned, certain pages are broken as a buggered bug. These include the reply screen and the new topic screen. I am doing my best to fix these as quickly as I can - it might take a couple of days to get all the weirdnesses out of the system (and then there's the design tweaks). Be gentle with me.

I like it... will there be pretty pretty pictures or is there a color code system? Just interested in the design strategy... who did it?

I certainly wasn't expecting that. Wow. Tom, you're amazing.

I love the logo at the top, looks dead classy. I fact, it all looks really fab. Nice idea to have colour-coded fora. Now I have to go and change the CD here, so as to provide a more fitting soundtrack to tonights Brand! New! 'Lith! Hmmm...

Never mind... i wandered here while it went live and wandered out to find a rainbow... Is that kosher with everyone? I know I'm alt/queer, but as a graphic desinger, I think the rainbow(as a graphic symbol) has been destroyed by the fags

I don't know what you're all talking about. Nothing has changed. It's always been like this. You must all be weird or something.

I just registered on Barbelith because I liked how it looked so much! I go out of the house, and a few hours later its changed. I hate it!
Please refer to post in "Magick and Spirituality", thread: "Crossing the Abyss". That was my first post, I'm telling you guys!!!

LOVE IT. Be damned with the rainbow paradigm/stigma in design these days, I think it's fabulous.

By the way, before you start on the bug lists - of which (I shall say again) you shall find a great many - can I point people in the direction of the officialish announcement over in the Policy which is where you're supposed to put bugs and stuff. Please do NOT do this until tomorrow morning! Let me fiddle a bit with the obvious run of stuff that turns up before people start digging around. Hopefully I can nail down the most obvious bugs really quickly now. Link to bug reporty thread

Wow it's beautiful. So sleek, so modern. A hint of Peter Saville, a twist of the gay rainbow and lots of nice white space. I knew I couldn't sleep for a reason, t'was to see the unveiling...

Voop!

D'you know, I actually went and woke poor old Lurid up to come and have a look?

First thoughts: Loving the chakratastic technicolour dreamskin, but missing the two-column layout and the pretty pictures. For some reason I'm put in mind of a swimming pool, which makes me very happy but may not be to everyone's taste.

Everybody's missed the best bit: the perforated 'Edit Post' links. They make me want to reach inside my monitor and tear them off, but that way lie tingly fingers and Dr Emmett Brown hair.

I'm a bit upset I can't idly refresh the front page to see if anything interesting is cropping up. Upset is probably too strong a word; it's more a general lazy sigh.

You know you don't all have to be nice about it. I know there are some pretty clunky areas to the board and I'm slightly cross with myself for not having resolved them by now. Still, I can do this in order now. I can start off with actual bugs that people find and gradually come in subsequently and neaten up all the areas that need it (after a bit of a break, I think).

I like the change, Tom. Really, the only thing that I'd recommend off the top of my head would be going w/primary colors rather than pastels. Against the greyish background, the colors look rather washed-out.

Spatula Clarke
00:39 / 29.03.04
No! The pastels look really nice - primary colours would be all bleurgh and gah if they were stacked on the main screen in the same way.

Tom, if you want negatives, the change you just recently made to the Reply screen makes it look much more a part of a unified design than before (which is good!), but we seem to have lost the ability to see the last few posts underneath the reply text box (which is a bit of a pain).

Well, FTVT kinda clashes with the background grey, but I think I like it.

But I miss the drop down menu for forum hopping.

I think it looks really funky, actually. What's more important, it looks nothing like the usual UBB nonsense, but it still looks good and professional, and is functional too.

Barbelith is love.

From the main page, a little more information about the forums would be helpful though - last post, posted by, time posted at etc.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Yeah, I think it looks gorgeous. My only criticism so far (which isn't really a biggie) is not being able to see what's new on the front page- right now it's not a problem, but when I'm at home on my UltraSlow(TM) connection, it may prove frustrating.

w1rebaby
01:04 / 29.03.04
Actually, on the subject of slow connections, I approve of the way it uses colours rather than images as backgrounds. CSS is the true path. (Not that the previous images were heavy, but it's even faster now.)

I must say that the text looks a bit of a mare on Linux, the way I have it configured right now. I'll take a more detailed look at the stylesheet tomorrow.

It's bizarre, but I think the only thing I've gotten weird about so far is the loss of a clear dividing line between Revolution fora and Spectacle fora; because the way they were, there was a noticeable difference in tone and content. Clear blue water and all that. I guess now we’ll find out how much that had to do with mods and posters and how much it had to do with them just being in different boxes.

Speaking of such things, how do we get to the FAQ now? And has the Bomb been permanently cut loose from Barbelith?

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that, fridge, good point.

Murray Hamhandler

Actually, looking at it again, I'd maybe just change the top two and bottom two colors on the front page. They look to be part of the same color scheme as the background, and I think that cool, muted frame is what leeches the vibrancy out of some of the other colors.
