I usually buy the Finanical Times on weekends because the inside section has book reviews and essays that are sometimes a window into continental European culture. Since last fall I've noticed a significant article on German culture or the Holocaust nearly every week. I studied Freud, Foucault, Lucaks, Weber, Mann, and Nietzsche in school and it seems to me that the articles on Sebald, Grass, and others paint a remarkably different picture of current thought in Germany - one that is abstract, free, reflective, and compassionate while being somewhat confrontational and fairly well integrated into day-to-day society. It is appealing to me.
Are there any other (better) print sources of criticism of modern continental European thought? I am particularly interested in historical-based criticism. A readling list or NYC based book club would be cool too.
Is there any online board or blog dealing with issues of European critical theory or cultural history? In English?
Are there any German 'lithers here?
