I was fortunate enough to hear Walter speak a few years ago: he was part of a platform discussing comunity activism. Unlike the other people who were talking that day, Walter seemed genuinely in touch with his audience, and had an interest in the ideas that were coming back at him.
Not only that, but he had a store of interesting anecdotes about his times in Glasgow activism, and had never disappeared into the career politics or academia that devours so many Scottish radicals.
He came across as compassion and enthusiastic. I have no doubt that he was a great inspiration to many.
My condolences go out to Grant, but also to the City of Glasgow, which has lost a doughty warrior. |
