Grant's father Walter has died at the age of 79, of cancer. Walter was a printer and tiler by trade, but will be best remembered as a community activist and anti-nuclear protester. He was awarded the MBE in 1998.

Grant, if you're reading this (and even if you aren't), your father sounds like he was an extraordinary man. Let what was best in him live on in you, and accept our condolences.

I hope that the kind wishes of strangers can bring you some comfort in this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and in my prayers.

And my condolences to Grant. My parents are still alive, so I can't truly understand what this must feel like... but without Grant's father, and subsequently Grant, this website, for one thing, wouldn't exist as a place for people to come together, in addition to the many other things Grant's father (and his progeny) stood for and accomplished.

Whenever Grant mentioned his Dad (who, IIRC, went by the name of "Big Crazy")in interviews his actions always brought a smile to my face. He will be missed even by those who never had the chance to know him.

That's a really, really hard thing to deal with, even when the one you have lost has led a full life. Just because they're ready doesn't mean you're ready for them to go. From personal experience, I don't think it's something you ever do get over, really; it saddens me to think of anyone having to deal with it, much less someone I admire. My condolences, too.
