I felt like we needed a thread for people's divinations for the coming year - based on numerology (we're out of 23-land!), tarot readings, visions, chatting up your favorite godforms, whatever the case may be. Anyone got any feelings/sights/insight/predictions gleaned through magickal means?

Best wishes to all for the coming New Year!

All I can say is, good riddance to 2003. By far one of the most difficult years of my life.

Oddly enough, 2002 was one of the best. I don't think it's a coincidence that I read "The Invisibles" in 2002 and "The Filth" (at least the second half of it) in 2003. From the positive aspect of magic to the qliphoptic aspect. Still, something to tell the grandchildren about I 'spose.

I've made no divinations for 2004. I want to be surprised.

I can't help but notice that in the finals days of 2003 we had this massive earthquake in Iran. Today in the news, on Jan. 1st, a mild quake in Mexico and another quake in Bali. And the recent small quake in San Francisco. More global upheaval ahead? Or does this number of quakes in a short period usually happen and it's far less dramatic than it sounds?

The Mars thing's still worrying me... not long ago we had its closest approach to Earth... now we've lost a probe there. And all the while we're engaged in a self-perpetuating "war" which, while abstract in concept, is costing a lot of lives in the real world. Coincidence? I sure fucking hope so.

more quakes for sure.
assasination of yassir arafat.
more children turning to shamanism & psychadelic compounds.
the tarot key i see representative for 2004 is the empress.
i expect many things to shift into gear and new dynamics to emerge.

i also think that 2003 has been difficult in many ways.

Anyone baffled by this, the solar flares, and other disasterous incidents occuring across the globe, might want to take a look at the Seventh Fire prophecies, as well as some Atlantean theories. In the Seventh Fire ('Fires' refer to time periods, and the first six 'Fires' have all come to past, as well as the beginning of the Seventh), the human race can either choose to return to the old days of love, magick, and peace, or continue abusing technology until it disrupts the electromagnetic field of the Earth, causing several cataclysmic disasters, ultimately distroying much of the human race and their technology, forcing the choice upon us. According to Atlantean theories, this caused distruction of the former civilization. Also, there is some evidence that this had happened about four times before, making this about this the sixth time we've been wiped out. If this plot line is not familiar to you, I suggest you also view the Matrix trilogy, specifically the second movie. I believe the Wachowski brothers were trying to portray that in addition to the Christ/Buddha story, as well as countless other hints and philosophies. The theory really does make everything fall into place--or in this case, everything is falling into pieces.

Assassination of Arafat? Whoa, that's pretty specific, where ya getting that one from?

2004: Year of PSYCHEDELIC DISCIPLINE

Culture marked by transcendental/escapist themes, continuing on from Weimar-republic style blank/shallow decadence of 2003. Upsurge of interest in psilocybin (we all seem in agreement about this). Paired with successionist thematics in sub-mainstream culture (see Polyphonic Spree); the pirate meme is played out with the punk kids but something less ironic and in the same vein will likely take its place. Possible military/disciplinarian/authoritarian/pack-mentality overtones to counterculture (see www.scotttreleaven.com for preview); mainstream youth culture will be the most conformist and bland we've seen since the launch of Sputnik.

Frantic searching for new myths and SF/Fantasy stories; look for one or two big events out of left field towards the end of the year now that Lord of the Rings/Matrix fever is over (although the Star Wars trilogy was seemingly designed to help facilitate a millenial holding pattern, I think people have forgotten from impatience by now).

Bush to be re-elected sparking turmoil on various levels. Heavy fatigue, irrationality, and lust for escape to make 2004 the biggest year for prescription antidepressants yet, new "post-happy" (basically prescription uppers) brands to skyrocket, buy stock in Pfizer now; this all corresponds with Saturn passing the closest to earth it has in a hellza long time a few days ago.

suitcase boy and gopher dance, I guess that's more or less like it. how do detected those patterns, boy?

I've recently seen the rise of the 'canibal' and 'nazi' memes, but until now was relating them to late-2003 tension/post-tension renewal. there's been some sort of neo-skinhead emergence in my brazilian town; more in the lines of 'Oi!'hooligan youth then Hitler Youth - still, I guess they're only a step apart.

in those lights the 'canibal' meme has more good than bad things to it, as Pop is beguining to be re-fed back to itself in some strange fashion again [and in broader, more transcontinental waves than before]. no surprise there, but I'm curious as to how this will be played out.

This time last year, I decided to choose a single card to represent the major thrust of the year ahead of me. I shuffled my Tarot while asking for a single card. Two flipped.

XV The Devil with 8 of Wands stuck to the back of it. I drew a third to clarify: 7 of Swords.

A very accurate reading or self-fulfilling prophecy? I can't say for sure. The spread certainly became a sub/conscious filter for experience, even becoming the motivation itself... if you're bothered, I'll post more about it.

This year, I drew a larger spread... wary of being confined to a single energy again. A year is a long time to be shackled . I wasn't going to post any of this, since it's personal rather than global, but h3r post struck a chord with the tarot key i see representative for 2004 is the empress.

Check. I had already done the reading and got Empress as my cover, crossed by Ace of Wands. The outcome was 6 of Swords.

I try to avoid beginning of year divinations, preferring to enchant. But I came across a prediction on Free Will Astrology which I think is absolutely dead-on for 2004:

Not one person in Ulan Bator will have skin cells from their own buttocks injected into their face to make them look more youthful.

I have so much faith in that I'm willing to bet on it. Any takers?

More seriously I also have a hunch that Bush will be re-elected, though I hope I'm wrong. I don't see Blair hanging around much longer, though, for some reason. This is all instinct, though.

What's "psilocybin"?

And I really really don't want Bush re-elected, but I know it's very possible...Wesley Clark in 2004!! (I don't think Dean has a chance, nor do I think he's a very good candidate)

i also have no doubt that bush will be re-elected. instincts. it just makes so much sense for everything to get much worse before some real wake-up call on a large scale can occur.

i like the atlantis references, they do resonate....

In a similar way to mixmage I go by the growth card Crowley's maths assigns me each year (I did do a thread about it ages ago, if you can't find it and want to know more give me a shout).

This year my card is "Death". Big change is a-coming in my life and quite frankly about bloody time

January 22nd ushers in the Year of the Monkey, hinting all the excitement and mischief one would expect. A time for progress through quick-thinking and communication (link), it is unlikely to be any less turbulent than last year; politically or environmentally (link). A time to stay on one's toes.

The symbolism behind the predictions is explained here in some depth:

The Year of the Monkey, 2004, in the Hsia calendar, is symbolized by two elements – with wood sitting on top of metal. According to the cycle of birth and destruction, which governs the inter-relationship between elements, metal will destroy wood. Therefore, wood sitting on its destroyer – metal, is a symbol of disharmony and this may lead to international conflicts...

As the year of yang wood Monkey is wood being destroyed by hidden metal, it also symbolises hidden danger and so we may see increase terrorist activities, secret plots and political assassinations which may bring regional unrest and conflicts.

you reckon?

[kinda off-topic: i vaguely recall this tradition in Hong Kong, The Eyes of the Year. If the blossom opens before new year, the Sheep would "steal the eyes" and the monkey would be "born blind". A blind primate at the reins! heh]

Year of the Monkey
wow. i had no knowledge of this. some educational info for me...
when travelling in hyperspace a few weeks ago I was surprised/attacked by an entity I dubbed the "monkey god". The way I perceived it, it looked somewhat like stone statue, crude features, a monkey-skull head. It somehow materialized out of my own thoughts/essence, where it had been hiding.
It was a very intense experience, but despite my initial fear and the "evilness" of the entity, the experience left me with a sense of familiarity/kinship with the "monkey-god", and I have been waiting for clues to shed more light on it's identity.
I have drawn some parallells with the way the Golden Dawn deck depicts the Wheel Of Fortuune, a card that seems to have been quite present for me lately. That monkey in the illustration seems to have something to do with my encounter.
Now I also see a connection with the coming "Year Of The Monkey". It appears to have shown up to say hello during the encounter. I daresay it is/will be a frightening year, but it will prove constructive to face it's raw and violent nature and work through it, merge with it, accept it.

In 2004 the line separating magick and science will be removed by accident but we wont find out about it until 2005...

Something spacey too I hope a new planet, some possible contact.. Here's hoping anyway.

And something to do with monkeys as mentioned before, um maybe a talking monkey.

I drew The Emperor card when I was thinking of the year 2004. Hmmm, Chesed - Israel is a fascist state and oppresses Palestinians full stop. Zionism enforces apartheid (no wonder they had huge ties with South Africa), which equates with seperatism which is bullshit. As for the year of the Monkey peeps should be looking to Hanuman fer spiritual guidance. Ah the great TAO.........

We're getting ever closer to 2012. We're not on the multiple of 3 rather than the multiple of 4. I just realized, as a rather odd note, that the closer we get to 2012, the farther apart the multiples get. The first four years, and first four multiples, of 12 were back to back. Now we have to wait two years until 2006 to go from 3 to 2. And then 6 years to go from 2 to 1. As we head towards 2012, we also become farther away from it. Perhaps someone more skilled in gematria or math than I can point out some meaning to that.

The world is walking a fine edge. Something is changing. The Monkey is the trickster spirit and the thief king, he is the sage and the fool in one. I would say he probably represents the agent of that change.

Noting that the US is growing more xenophobic. Increased police presence at major public functions is slowly getting people used to being surrounded by military forces and being watched. Now all people coming into the US must be finger printed and photographed. I definitly see Bush winning the election, not through charisma but through propaganda.

The cards definitly point to this. There's a definite theme of sorrow and negativity resulting from some sort of passion and leading to control and severity. Interestingly, though, the last card also means honesty as well as severity and subordination. Perhaps there's a severe truth that results from the control. The first card also points to upheaval, so reading counter clockwise it could be said that an upheavel caused by command willd discover the severe truth in passion, or through passion, or something like that. Read clockwise (I do a four card spread most of the time, marking each of the four directions), it could certainly point to a more controlling focus for the year that results in sorrow and negativity, but counter-clockwise could signal an upheavel and revolution against that control.

h3r: I have drawn some parallells with the way the Golden Dawn deck depicts the Wheel Of Fortune, a card that seems to have been quite present for me lately. That monkey in the illustration seems to have something to do with my encounter

Here's to "chance encounters"!

I reckon we have different Golden Dawn Decks (i've got the Cicero "Magickal Tarot"), because the monkey has been substituted with a "dog-faced ape creature" called Cynocephalus. No idea why, but I recall the ape from the Thoth deck's Wheel of Fortune and do a little scratching...

It is "Hermanubis in the semblance of an ape", representing the restlessness of brilliant, unstable reason - Rajas of the vedic gunas: Sattwa, Rajas, Tamas - the alchemical Sulphur, Mercury and Salt.

He climbs up the left-hand side of the wheel and represents alchemical mercury, while Typhon precipitates himself down the right hand side and represents salt. The exalted Sphinx at the top representing sulphur.

Hermanubis? who he?

Seems he is the Graeco-Egyptian combination of Hermes and Anubis result[ing] in the popular "Hermanubis." Hermes was messenger of the gods, while Anubis was principally guide of the dead. Hermanubis was some times given attributes of Harpokrates.(link) hmmmm Harpocrates... aka Hoor-Paar-Kraat.

I think I understand the Cynocephalus now. A canine head in honour of Anubis... it also explains why Crowley specifies "Hermanubis in the semblance of an ape" - it's the monkey, see?

Most of the links that came up while chasing Hermanubis focus on the Wheel of Fortune and how the card itself represents The Rite of Jupiter. (1) (2) So much so, that I'm gonna crosslink this post in that thread.

Who would have known I'd learn something chasing a monkey?... perhaps he knew where we were headed.

Main prediction I've gotten so far for '04 has been
"373", Gematria = LOGOS.

Two caveats on this one though: 1) I don't usually use Gematria, it just sort of happened this time, so... eh. 2) I've already determined some very specific ways in which "logos" applies to my personal conditions, so this may well be a localized effect, and of little use to anyone else. But, wanted to throw it in the stew with everything else, just in case it's useful.

In 2003 everyone became a DJ.

In 2004 everyone will claim that being a DJ is over, but then they will starting DJing again because they'll claim that saying things are over is over. DJing itself will be a protest against saying things are over, which is very very over.

Honestly, I'm scared to make any serious predictions because some of it might come true.

The MGM Grand will blow up.

Now, say that the MGM Grand really did bleow up in a few weeks. Would people come after me or what?

All the Anti-Zionist stuff is pretty creepy, especially as a Jew. The problem, at least in my opinion, is how America is using Israel to carry off its own agenda.

The White House will blow up and a bunch of happy families will dance outside of it in ecstasy. Nothing Tokyo or anything, but enough to launch a completely new musical genre. New species not for a few more years...

(Ya, I'm getting out of this country in 2004. New Zealand sounds pretty sweet.)

More of the same I reckon this year around in the big global stew that there is - well I would say that the world does seem to be getting more xenophobic. Things seem to be getting tighter all around. I can't really pinpoint any trends for sure. I apologise if I offended anyone with my so-called anti Zionist remarks, everyone's entitled to their opinion - but too many people seem to shove anti-zionism with anti-semitism into the same pigeonhole. Are MOSSAD the puppies of the USA????? Do the UN actually do anything of worth???? Does a change of policians actually change anything?! Is anarchism a thing of the past?! Is it true the world is getting more tighter or are we being clouded by our reality tunnels and/or age?! Mebbe my card that I pulled out was on a more personal level????
