(*slaps forehead*) Of course! Here I've been looking for a blank badge all this time, when I could just take one I already have and paint it white...
I've never felt comfortable wearing overt occult symbols, largely because of others' often misguided interest. I wore a pentacle very briefly, but stopped because everyone assumed it meant I was Wiccan (especially other Wiccans), and that wasn't quite where I was at. I do have a beautiful silver Thor's Hammer that doesn't look at all like an inverted cross, is small enough to be unobtrusive, and hangs on a chain that is long enough to be worn inside most clothes, so I do occasionally wear that. Every once in a while someone asks what it is, and others ask if I'm Asatru - with about the same frequency, oddly enough.
I do wear craploads of other jewelry, and most of the pieces are significant to me in some way even though they don't have "symbols" on them. Generally they elicit no commentary beyond the occasional "Nice ring/earrings/necklace/bracelet/anklet/toe ring/whatnot."
The only actual symbol I always have on me is a tattoo in the small of my back; a circular triptych of three horses with Celtic knotwork. I had some magical intent when I got it - the horse symbolizes strength and power to me, and in getting it over my spine I hoped to gain some of that fortitude; plus, in my mind the three horses stand for three of my favorite deities. But if anyone bothers to examine the tat, all I usually get is "Oh, you must like horses." (Or sometimes, "I like your unicorns." Despite the fact that there are no freakin' horns there. Not even anything you could reasonably mistake for a horn.) Fairly innocuous commentary, if a bit vapid. |
