London Welcomes Careful Dictators: this week's anti-Bush protests...

Okay, so it's partly covered up here but I'm sure I'm not alone in being slightly confused as to the wheres and whens of the various activities protesting Bush's queen-fondling visit to our sceptred shores. I'm a little concerned that diffusing the protest might lower already-thin numbers (since it's midweek, we're 'coincidentally' on second-highest terrorism alert, etc., etc.) and am keen to lend my own support where it's likely to be most effective.

So... can anyone give me a run-down of the major events from Wednesday onwards? Are other Barbeloids going along?

Well I've pretty much covered what I know about in the Switchboard thread but basically I'm definitely going to the rally at Friends Meeting House on euston road at half 7 on Tuesday. Tony Benn and some other people should be speaking there. The alternative state procession on Wednesday should see my presence and the Stop the War March on Thursday for definite. There are some other bits and pieces I'll probably go to as well. Anyway I'd really like to go with some of you!

Does anyone want to meet up on Wednesday or Thursday?

Is there a link or site summarising the various rallies/meetings?

I'm hopefully going to be free on Thursday afternoon if we want to do the Barbe-standard of meeting up somewhere and marching. However, I won't know until tomorrow, so perhaps if the folks who are likely to turn up would like to decide a meeting place then I'll come back to you. It's not going from Embankment as before is it?

www.stopwar.org.uk has the main info on the the demo on Thursday the 20th. Starts in Malet street and goes to Trafalgar square.

Meeting at the British Museum sound cool, but probably best to get there for 1pm and give it half an hour to get to the demo just in case.

Oh and heres a copy of the info the Brixton Stop the War group was sending round.

I'll be about from 4.30 onwards so i'll try and ring who i can and catch up. Failing that it'll be the pub i guess.

But the demo's two streets away!

The demo's two streets away from what? Me or the pub?

The British Museum actually This thread's confusing.

But funnily enough ever since i can remember i've always had a demo just 2 streets away from me. Keeps me up at night. Bloody thing.

Yeah might be two streets away but have you ever tried organising this lot, like herding cats it is *ptcha*. And everyone will of course be fashionably late as well

Muddy pooflaps. I have training in High fucking Barnet until sometime around four or five on Thursday. So getting into London time will be about an hour after that. Anyone anticipate still being in town that late, are there evening events I could head for?

Tryphena Absent
17:40 / 17.11.03
Look Malet Street's not very big and it looks like the numbers are going to be fairly big so getting there earlier seems a bit like a waste of time considering getting all of those people out is going to take a while. Half an hour before's going to be okay and some of us are coming straight from work because we only have half days off. Plus it's probably going to be fairly cold etc.

Basically if you do decide to meet at 1 you're going to have to wait for me in the chilly air because I'm not going to finish work until then.

Well we could just meet in the pub and forget about the demo. I'm only really coming to socialise and have a drink with people. To be honest i'm not really that much against fox-hunting.

You animal! Don't you know that foxes sometimes get their noses shot off!?

Can't make it, but have fun - that's not really the right word is it. Be careful everyone.

half an hour before is early as it is, these things usually start late as hell. Um, do we have a time and place decided on, then?

Erm, I'm going for just outside the British Museum's main gates (just across the road from the Museum Tavern) at half past 1?? Is that okay?

I can't make this, but I may have to come into town for other reasons on thursday, so are you all going to the pub afterwards? If so, I might drop by, depending on time/location.

No worries, 1:30 on the Britosh Museum steps, thursday 20th November is cool. Will be there.
Which pub...well no positive suggestions here but can we avoid the Chados? Possibly the Princess Louise? Anyone have any new and shiney pub discoveries?

Cherry Bomb
08:58 / 19.11.03
Cool. I have a meeting with someone near the British Museum at about noon, so I'll do that, meet up, fuck shit up and then go teach at 3, provided I don't get arrested. See ya there!

Goodness Gracious Meme
17:35 / 19.11.03
erm, don't wait for me as i'm really not sure whether i'm gonna make it or not. if i am, i'll make sure i'm there for 1.30. if not, good luck and take care all.

So are there any other working wounded who plan to go after work hours? I'll be finishing work at 4.15pm in the west end and am going to meet Ariadne at 5pm. We were thinking of just heading down to Trafalgar Square. Do you think it will still be going on?

Anyone else interested? Gypsy Lantern? Our Lady of the After Working Hours?

Our Lady of The Two Towers
19:09 / 19.11.03
Is there any Anti-Bush events in the evening? If not, could we make some sort of decision about a post-pub meeting? The Chandos? No chance, right by the demo, it'll be heaving. The Princess Louise or wossname, the pub by the British Museum? I'll let you lot decide as I'm not sure if I'm coming down at all, so if necessary I'll text someone to find where you are...

Loomis
19:45 / 19.11.03
Well I figured if it starts at 2, it'll take a while to get to Traf. Sq, so I thought there'd still be folks milling about at 5-ish. Is that too optimistic? If there's nothing doing I'll be happy to decamp to a pub. The Plough seems to be the default location these days. Or the PL is fine - those magickally inclined can wander upstairs to Secret Chiefs at their leisure.
