Stunning how you can't make a point without both promoting your ego while shooting down another.

Every post on this thread is an attempt to insult me personally while I have made it plain that I am seeking a resolution to this issue while admittedly making your behavior public.

Your use of the word infantile is both telling and at the same inappropriate. I've not been calling for attention, as I continually point out, aside from drawing attention to the issue.

Spatula was working on a solution and you saw it as a good time to make a broad sweeping statement that the other posters are acting like negative stereotypes of sci-fi fans.

I move that the thread be deleted as well if that's cool. It's not my job or place but it seems to me like the best solution.

But I assume Haus will just continue to insult me and avoid closure on this.

As for you: you PMed me with abuse. That, for some reason, is not trying to put other people down or bolster your ego, because hypocrisy is, as mentioned, much easier when you are an idiot.

Your post was broadly insulting and did not contribute to the thread unless the topic actually was how at least HAUS is not a useless emotionally retarded fan, unlike some other people he could name.

Oh, I certainly think you are emotionally retarded. I didn't realise that was ever at issue. My hope was to shame you into at least pretending to be a grown-up, little realising that you could no more feel shame than you could spell "semen".

My point, as I will never be able to explain slowly and loudly enough, was that you, specifically, were once again tarring the good name of intelligent, able science fiction enthusiasts with your own personal halfwit brush. That has nothing to do with me feeling good. I feel bad with every syllable that gasps out its last breath on the flinty rocks of your emotional and intellectual ineptitude. This whole affair makes me feel bad. I doubt it makes you feel bad, because self-satisfaction, like hypocrisy, is endlessly simpler when applied as an admixture with idiocy.

I’ve missed the bit where you’ve *proposed* a system for posting spoilers, dude. Is this in reference to something you’ve said in the ‘spoiler’ thread? Because, obviously, I haven’t been looking. It can’t all be fighting, surely. Or are you referring to Hieronymus’ I still think we should have some sort of [spoiler] [/spoiler] scripting dealy wherein the spoiler text itself is blacked out and has to be highlighted with the mouse to be read suggestion?

If you’ve been debating the issue, you’ve been doing it well out of sight. But credit to Spats and Haus for having the patience to even reply to you, considering the awful, abusive, unhelpful way you’ve behaved in this thread.

Mr. Six is demonstrating a pretty standard behaviour - essentially, trying to troll his way out of being wrong. This started in the Dr. Who thread, continued through the spoilers thread, his insulting private messages and has now come out here. Faced with any correction, he would rather attempt to obfuscate the issue than admit to being wrong, throwing out stuff that simply makes no sense rather than acknowledging any responsibility. Child behaviour, essentially. So, just as he has attempted to bluff his way out of not being able to spell "semen" with an argument that simply makes no sense (a riddle? maybe a pun, but even then), if one were to point out that:

Is missing the word "time", he would insist that he planned it that way all along, and that in fact it was part of a complex scheme to make you look silly, which just worked ha ha. Critically, he cannot imagine anyone being brighter than he is, and therefore cannot comprehend how ridiculous these attempts to squirt ink out of his arse look.

Regrettably this behaviour when taken to extremes, combined with a lack of social skills, is pretty nasty to watch or to endure. Since he will not accept any form of correction - Bed Head's judgement will be discarded out of hand, and may lead to another wave of abuse - there is not much hope of getting him to behave better, so one must either appease, ignore or attempt to use the mechanisms of the board to ameliorate. Hopefully some sort of instinctive self-preservation reaction will calm him down, but since the only yardstick he has of what is appropriate is his own actions (PMing people with insults is not abusive, because Mister Six does it, and Mister Six could never be abusive) I'm not holding out much hope.

I think everybody has said some pretty nasty things in the latter part of this thread and I think most of it is supremely unhelpful in considering the subject of spoiler warnings.

If the spoiler subject comes up again and this thread comes back to the top it's going to be fairly confusing for anyone new to it to ascertain what the board thinks about spoilers. I expect they'll just be left with a feeling of being caught in the middle of a particularly nasty bout of the worst kind of online rowing.

I notice that the post count for the Dr Who spoiler thread halved this morning, so presumably most of the actual policy discussion that just took place on this subject has now been deleted as rot. For future reference - Six, that’s what a Policy forum is here for.

I’m interested, because I think it was my complaint that finally led to the creation of this new thread which has caused such a lot of hassle, but I’ve not really seen what the objections to it were, or how they’ve been settled. Sorry for the hassle, anyway.

The off-topic from that thread was put up for deletion because all it was doing was sitting there like a giant lump of dog shit, stinking the rest of the board out.

If the issue of spoilers and how to deal with them does come up again, I'd appeal to whoever brings it up to do so in a new thread and leave this one to rot forever at the bottom of the forum.

See, I've just clicked back on this thread after a couple of days to see if anyone has anything to add about spoilers and the handling thereof, and all I see is somebody who seems to feel oh so hard done by by somebody else and also to feel the need to tell everyone about it.

This makes me cross. Shut up. (a) I don't care and (b) it's not about spoilers. Apparently the original argument - about which, in case it's not sufficiently clear, I don't care - evolved from something about spoilers, but none of this cockery is about spoilers. It's ego spam.

I honestly hope I said it clearly (though no one who posted here seems to have noticed or in some cases know anything about what they're talking about) that I may have reaped the whirlwind and that if proven wrong I'd admit it but I got a rather snarky PM after I outed Haus as a wanker in Private for his response to Hieronymus Squash B'gosh in the seldom mentioned Who Spoilers thread saying that sci-fi fans are emotional retards, etc and Hieronymus Squash B'gosh and others... not him ofcourse... were proving this theory correct. That is, somehow cool and fine and not childish, etc. I was pretty sick of seeing this kind of shit and as it also had nothing to do with the thread topic added nothing to the attempted conversation. In fact most if not all of the thread was about justifying or shooting down the thread's existence.

Haus said my PM was abuse and threatened to repost anything else I PMd him, etc, so not happy withbeing threatened I reposted our PM conversation myself which caused him to steadily explode in greater fits of insanity... seen in the oddly titled 'Do Thread Titles Need Spoliers'... etc thread here. Each post, if you look, more directly insults me personally and again, that is fine.

I've simply restricted myself to pointing out that he's not arguing anything just saying 'you are bad and suck' and 'I am cool and do not suck' over and over again... with very mixed metaphors and little actual sense.

The only actual time I've lost my cool was when I admited to doing so. I've also repeatedly asked the topic to be resolved and asked why rumors that I posted next to others were moved over to another thread that isn't actually suited to it. I've not cried that my rights were infringed upon, I've not yelled that I am being abused or persecuted. I've not even corrected anyone's grammar or spelling errors (though I could, butseriously what would be the point?).

So... that's what happened.

I still think the actual act of creating a spolier thread is dumb and that the actual posts reposted don't serve the thread PLUS there were two moderators posted in the thread about justifying it and no real rumor at all.

I've not offered up any solutions just asked if the topic was closed with the suggested to use block text if I remember correctly. So I ask again, is the issue resolved?

Haus has brought it to personal attacks over and over and tried to put words in my mouth as well. I never said that I was being abused that I was having my rights messed with or that everyone else is wrong.

Perhaps Haus is looking at another thread or has a special filter to look through.

I'm happy that the topic description was changed and I'd second that blocktext be accepted as the new system for posting spoilers.

I have no problem with any of the posts here being moved for deletion, although more generally I think this thread may be a useful reference point if and when Six starts trying to troll people off the board, which is usually the next step in the world of the always right.

Generally, I don't think abusive behaviour should be indulged or brushed under the carpet. More specifically, I don't feel that it would be appropriate for me to move for my own posts or those of others caught in the same idiotapalooza to be deleted. You might want to move them for deletion yourself, and I would certainly submit to the decision of other moderators.

Hypocrisy is easier when and so on.

Closure is not the same as "everyone agreeing with me". Nor is it the same as "having the last word". Grown-ups know this. As such, I am out of this thread, which depresses me. If you can learn how to use basic HTML, work out what is and is not a spoiler and not whine like a puppy in a blender when your inability to do either of the above mentioned is dealt with by moderators, we may have a solution to the spoiler question. You will not be able to manage any of those, but that is something we will just have to deal with.
