MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
14:29 / 22.06.07
Thanks to Hector Lima's thread here, I have found and am now listening to Breakwater's "Release the Beast," which is going to get me in a lot of trouble at work in about two seconds because it contains unmanageable levels of funk.

The QOTSA version of 'Never say Never'.

Partly cos' it's so clever/stupid and partly cos' I can't quite work out what the sax riff from the Romeo Void version is being played on.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
16:36 / 22.06.07
I'm downloading "Dinosaur Egg" right now, whee.

But today, I'm inordinately happy because of the Answering Machine's "Silent Hotels." It's all bright-eyed and atomic. I like city songs, though.

ELO- 'Mister Blue Sky'. It's just a happy tune from a simpler time really.

The Knife's "Heartbeats"- four years on this song still manages to lift my mood, no matter what. Bloody amazing!

JUST RIDE MY FUNKEH GROOVE, NOW!

Wasn't expecting go-go to be much of anything, but thanks to Trouble Funk, it's all it needs to be: Hey Fellas.

BOOGIE ON DOWN, NOW, BOOGIE ON DOWN!

Cool, full rythm.

And.

HORNS!

Tops off! Jagged robot arms! Rave action!

This tune - Yelle - A Cause Des Garcons (Riot in Belgium Mix) - sounds eerily like the kind of shit that would've propelled a speed fuelled rushtastic Boboss onto the dancefloor of Club Uk's Final Frontier around twelve years ago. I thought I didn't have a lot of time for the post Daft Punk, guitar distortion sound of modern French House music, but, ya know, I am wrongness.

Ah!
Funny fact: Yelle was first noticed in France because her first single was actually a long rant about the supposedly small size of TTC's Cuizinier's penis...

I was tempted today to barbecrush Boboss with a single line. I like living though...

My current amaze-track is Uma by OOIOO.

Crazily bizarre pounding on drums with silly duck wistles and many shouting in words i don't understand from Yoshimi P-We (of Boredoms) and her band. Stunning second-long effects dropped into the background.

IT POUNDS.

It feels like a war song from a place/time where war is fun and silly and doesnt have the whole death thing. Like what you'd listen to if you were going to have a dance-off with a tree.

It makes me wish i could scream in a Japanese lady's voice.

It makes me feel sooo happy, like i've just been plugged into something.

I LOVE IT!

And, listening to it, i'm off to crush boboss. Just cause.

If you've not heard this song. please please PLEASE get it. You'll love me for it. You'll love OOIOO even more for it.

GOD DAMN IT, YOU'LL LOVE EVERYTHING!

I was actually gonna 'tune of...' this song (Je Veux Te Voir) a few weeks back (but am lazy). It's really enjoyable dirtpop and, once you figure out what she's actually saying (as you, say it's basically a diss track agaisnt Cuizinier for his misoginistic views) its hella funny.

Not the best video tho.

Oh Oh I Oh Oh!!!!!
This song makes me jump around my appartment making impressions of various mammals to my girlfriend...Sounds like a cheerleader-from-Neptune stomp except that they would be supporting every single team of the universe:
OOIOO, you got that right!
(I love jumping around and I'm a really tall fella, I was told it was ludicrous but with Battles, Deerhoof or OOIOO, ludicrous is the new fabulous to me!)

Ludicrous is very in right now!

I hear Ed Banger tried to sign ludicrous, but it broke the decks with a drunken axe-kick dance.

Score ten to ludicrous!

My song that I am listening to right now is All Falls Down by Kanye West. It is a funky song with great lines and a good message too. It is about consumerism and how we all are self-conscious, including Kanye West of course.

I especially like the line "The prettiest people do the ugliest things for the road to riches and diamond rings"

An interesting tidbit about this song is that the line "Drug dealears buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack and the white man gets paid off of all of that" was censored by MTV and several radio stations to remove the reference to white people.

When I saw him in concert in March of last year, he changed the line from "the white man" to "George Bush". Which I found interesting, as it felt he was pandering to his (predominantly) white live audience.

I hope you wrote a letter telling him how you, Mathelete, thought an African-American performer such as Kanye West should approach the political content of his lyrics in such a way as to not pander to white audiences.

There's no way I'm telling the "Louis Vitton Don" the whys and where toos of his lyrics.

Funny, I stumbled across that ooioo video with stop motion tribal drumming earlier today, it's cool.
I keep going back to youtube to listen to Billy Talent's River Below. Anthemish emo punk.. But defnatly good if any of that is your cup of tea

Man Ray by the Futureheads keeps cropping up in every mix tape I make at the moment. I listen to it loads, then delete it for fear of being repetative.

After hearing it while watching a youtube clip of a high Homer cruising with his flying car into a psychedelic landscape, I´ve extensively listened to Donovan´s Wear Your Love Like Heaven the last four or five days. That´s a lot of awesome grooviness packed into just two and a half minutes.

Funnily enough I'm currently (well, it's just finished, but you know what I mean) listening to Donovan's mighty 'Goo Goo Barabajagal'. A thundering brit-psych masterpiece, featuring the scything axe of Jeff Beck.

Altogether now: "TRUTH IS MOLTEN!"

Thats a corker that, all the more so for the Jeff Beck Group as backing band. But i could never get my head around the fact that Led Zep/New Yardbirds were the backing band on 'Hurdy Gurdy Man'...

Agreed, not much in the way of thunderous riffage on that one is there? Great tune though. The Butthole Surfer's version is a particular delight.

Woof! Might I also suggest that those of a heavy spacerock bent get over to Julian Cope's 'Head Heritage' site and check out the live stream of the Death Comes Along album that is currently filling the album of the month spot?

It is Space. It is Rock. I am being eaten alive by a giant Mantis.

Bandini- is this a song by guitar wolf? or do you mean that you have been listening to both guitar wolf and God speed you black emperor?

Can you expand on your post- tell us what songs, what they sound like and why they rock your world- or should we ignore you and hope a moderator deletes your worthless post...

Bandini
20:14 / 04.07.07
It is a song by Guitar Wolf. They took the name from the film 'Godspeed you black emperor' about a biker gang in Japan in the 60s. Also the influence for the Canadian post rock band.

I apologise for the short post - I was joyful and exuberant after just seeing Guitar Wolf and that tune was making me happy.
The summary said "Tell me a single song that makes you happy/overjoyed/fucking happy to be alive!". I didn't realise I was breaking rules by keeping it brief.

I've currently go Carry out Orders by Eskiboy (Who is Wiley?) and JME as it appears on the "Worlds Heaviest Dubstep, Grime & Bass" compilation.

It isn't the best song in the world, beat wise, but it has this hilarious (Badly transcribed) exchange in the middle:

Eskiboy: JME get to work

JME: Nah man I can do what I want / I know your the boss an all...

E: Yeah, that's right you wanna keep your job?

J: Course I'm only human...

E: Look sharp there's work that needs doin!

J: Nah fam I'm asking you nicely / If you want work done ask politely blud / cos man ain't an idiot you're the boss but your acting to bossy and bullying ain't gonna make me work properly...

E: JME shut up! / If you're not gonna work I don't relly mind, go home and wait for your P45 / Get out!

J: Omigod that's it / You know what boss, I quit!

'Course, that's lost a hell of a lot in Translation.

It still makes me giggle after a fortnight and a hundred or so listens.

Could be forthcoming with Mp3s if anyones interested.

Sirens. Dizzee Rascal. Super. I'm not sure if overjoyed is the word - at night - Dizzee Rascal in between blasts of Goldfrapp's ambient stuff. Lovely. Popol Vuh and Scott Walker too, in between.
