And I've seen the completed 4th webisode (going up sometime this week) and I do believe it's the most impressive and ambitious page so far... nice job, man.

Webisode 4 is now up and Lentil outdid himself with this one, people!

That's brilliant!

I'm dying to know what happens next, do you know when the next one will be there?

You'll have to ask Lentil... but his pen's been on fire lately so I'd guess soon.

Glad you liked it.

Does anybody know of any contests or something I could sibmit this to once it's done? Something the takes webcomics. Maybe me and Lentil can get a grant or something for this?

Also, if people who like it could tell others, that would spread the word, eh?

Please feel free to spread the URL, link to our site, etc.

Oh, and submit work as well.

WOW.

Wow.

Beautiful layouts. Great concept. Brilliant execution. Gorgeous colors & art. Very innovative.

If "Kobuta" is "pig" or "piglet" in Japanese, what does "Buta" mean? I'm not clear on why the story is taking us into the world of a wolf when the story is about a pig, other than the common idea of animals & men (and man/animals) painting things on walls.

That's not a wolf, look at the hooves and the curly tail, it's a wild boar/man. And kobuta is piglet and buta is pig in japanese. Glad you liked it.

Oop, sorry - I read it kinda quick. Now I see the hooves & tail (and the snout, which is a real indicator).

I blame any obscurity or difficulty in reading page four on the fact that Imp asked for it to have a weird feel!

I always thought "Buta" was just a simplification of "Kobuta" - as the dream sequence is set in some undefined prehistory, it makes sense for the characters to be less developed linguistically.

Having read the complete story, I think the symbolism & parallels between pages will become more apparent as you read on... shouldn't be long, I'm drawing the penultimate scene at the moment.

Yeah, the dream may feel like an odd little aside, but I put that in there because kobuta doesn't talk and I wanted to visit his mind so we could get a clearer picture of what's going on with him. (And give lentil something to draw besides sterile labs.) But it does tie back to the larger piece.

And I did put in the script that I wanted it to look werewolf-like. So lentil was only following orders like a good little penciler-bot.

Cool - I look forward to seeing what comes next!

Lentil, how did do you do the paintings? Watercolors which you then scanned or something like that? How does one put together a webcomic where the panels flow all over the page? It's fascinating stuff.

I think you should send it to Scott McCloud - he loves webcomics. I'll try to hunt down his email - I have it somewhere...

Finderwolf, I've used black India ink for every aspect of the art, and the colours are all added in Photoshop, using the Selective Colour command. The watercolour-like parts are just diluted ink.

Generally the way I've worked on this has been very cut-and-paste; I'll go through a page and draw each panel separately, often leaving details out or leaving the shape of the panel undefined. Those are then scanned and arranged in Photoshop, and depending on the result I'll either make changes and additions to the orginal drawings, or work on top of printouts of sections of the page.

Scott McCloud's details are on his site, I sent him a copy of Slab 3 a few weeks back. Haven't had a reply, I'm not really sure if it's realistic to expect one. However my project doesn't fulfil his ultimate fantasy of digital comics production and delivery, whereas Kobuta does, so might be more likely to elicit a few comments.

For anyone in the Wizard World Chicago area, I will be at the Con handing out ashcans and promoting the site this weekend.

Hope to see you there.

The Con was a huge success. I met a ton of talented artists and writers and I am currently waiting to see new projects blossom to the site.

In the meantime the remaining webisodes of Kobuta are up and all three print comics are up for reading as well.

Let me know what you think, spread the word and send me stories!

Very nice work on KOBUTA --- that final bit where it fades to black and the frustrated, primal, angry boar is crying out, silenced... really beautiful.
