Yes. We should not let this thread die.

Perhaps someone could fetch out a phonebook and pick a name and address at random. We could case the property and make wild suppositions about the inhabitants music taste. Then we could cuss them for it. Finally we could prepare an educational cd of stuff that they really ought to be listening to instead.

Then we could send it to them.

A similar dilemma...

Or how about using something like this, finding people who have lost their CD wallets, and sending them a nice new CD wallet stuffed with new CDs... Wouldn't that be an awfully nice thing to do? I mean, not that I object to the stalking-stealing scenario, but it might be nicer and equally fun to help someone out...

If it ever happens again, Fraely, you should send the wallet back intact, but with this letter:

"You! You piece of shit! This! This shit! This disgusting! This strumpet! Is this what you wanted? This shit?!?

Do you want a fight?!!!!!!!!!!!!!?"

The wallet belongs to Lucky Derek's friend, yes, but this does not disqualify my theory. In fact I am filling a wallet with Michael Bolton cd's and the address of my exboyfriend as we speak. The only remaining question is in whose path should I 'lose' the wallet for the most venomous effect?

1. I lost a cd wallet in February 2002 containing, oh, about 50 or so of my favorite CDs of all time. I'm still slowly re-purchasing those that are missing from my collection, but I can tell you that, for a music lover, the pain of losing such a wallet doesn't really go away. It still annoys me and makes me sad when I think about it. So I've enjoyed this thread because at least someone else got their wallet back.

2. What's the deal with slagging off Ben Harper? He's pretty talented - have you even listened to any of his albums? Also Paul Simon is pretty talented, too. Haven't you ever heard any of his early 70s stuff? He's got a great album about Puerto Rico, and "Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes" remains one of my favorite songs. I think I have good taste in music, and I'm standing by it.

3. If someone really enjoys the work of Celine Dion, why can't we just let them? It's their life.

4. I would be so fucking pissed off if someone decided that the CDs I paid money for and loved were "unacceptable" and replaced them with "better" music. I did like the idea of adding to the collection. Even though it didn't get to happen.

5. One woman's crap is another one's favorite song.

Gosh. The whole point of Celine Dion is surely that you can caterwaul along with each and every song. Don't ruin my Celine love, it is an integral part of my existence (admittedly only on VH1 days) and goes hand in hand with the magic of Bonnie Tyler and early Whitney Houston.

Personally, I've got nothing against Ben or Paul in isloation, but, when teamed with Gray and others of a similar furrowed-browed-strumming ilk in a CD wallet, I think the whole thing screams po-faced earnestness! like nothing else.

Forget what I said earlier. This person may be wonderful. I just find it all a bit naff.

I nearly lost my wallet about a year ago and, yes, it would have really fucked me up. And, yes, I would have been distraught and angry had it been returned to me full of Madness albums. But, for the record, I don't think Fraely would have stolen their music anyway.

Celine Dion is a shovel-faced harridan, who interrupted the enjoyment of my life for a long time with her 'Titanic' theme tune. For that reason she can be considered a force for evil in this world. Oh yes. And she did that 'sexy' ragga thing as well. So, y'know, bring on the hatred. And judgement.

OK, agreed on the force of evil thing. But why should you punish a Celine-lover for what are truly Celine's sins?

You know, I bought a double disc of the best of Elton John today. I really wanted to buy it, but now the enjoyment is double because I know it's irritating well over half of you music snobs.

I'm still standin'...

Well yes I have to agree with For that reason she can be considered a force for evil in this world. Oh yes because it's true. She is a force for evil but then everyone needs a bit of dark satanic mill in their life every now and then. Celine Day on VH1 just gets it up and forces it in my direction!

Talking of the funny opinions we can form about people based on very limited information: I have a friend who is convinced Celine Dion is definitely a closet racist and, you know, doesn't really like gays. Like that Auntie in suburbia you don't like very much

Well she did turn down the Best Singer in English award at the French-Canadian Music something or others so she's obviously got a language chip on her shoulder... but homophobia, hahaha, definitely not public knowledge if she is super-het favourable. I mean just think of her audience!

I know, I know, but I was really fascinated by my friend's ability to make up these marvelously unprovable stories. I mean, he really went into one at the time.... So weird.

Boboss does it, too, but he does it with such wit and venom you can't help but get sucked in by it.

I don't recall there ever being anything wrong with Reg Dwight, musically. That descending bassline bit just as the chorus of "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road" kicks in is still a fucking killer.

And as for Celine: she's just signed a couple of years up in Vegas: bear in mind that she's now richer than God thanks to her market, shovelfacedness or not... and we're all just pissing about on a bulletin board. Not to make a judgement call, but obviously if there's a market for it and taking advantage of it will get you rich - why the fuck not?

I daresay the person who stole my CD wallet full of Zorn and ECM CDs when I was visiting Sydney a couple of years ago was bemoaning the fact that there was no Chisel/Barnes in it. It doesn't make my loss or my desire for the fucking music any less important.

AND I wore my late-'90s Ben Harper tour shirt to work today. Suck on that.

Elton John has the most punchable face in pop, seconded only by Robbie-cocking-Williams.

I've just read this thread which degenerated into a slanging match. Why don't we post a few threads which didn't so people can see how much better it is when people don't slage each other off?

Oh, and are you ready for love?

Yes, I am.

I am most definitely ready for love, and everything that goes with it, including David Furnish.

Geese, send this man Rock Beauts and have done with it.

Afternoon Sauron.

Don't know why Rothkoid's still going on about giving wallets back. The bloody thing's back with it's rightful owner. No harm done.

As for slanging, this must be the most civil slanging match I've had the pleasure of joining.

I did read your post, Mr Brusque.

By this line

It doesn't make my loss or my desire for the fucking music any less important.

I got the feeling you might be implying that a certain amount of guilt should be felt by those that suggested any course of action other than the wallet's prompt return. I was merely suggesting that the conversation had moved on.

Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick.
