What if Quentin Quire comes back? He is energy now, after all...

You know, I think Quentin is dead. I think Magneto really did murder him instead of setting him free.

Like Chronos...

Yeah, everyone's scared of their replacements.

I have to say this ish made me think Morrison + Jiminez = Claremont + Byrne, no doubt. Grand, ludicrous tragedy.

Flux = An Infuriating Blowhard You know, I think Quentin is dead. I think Magneto really did murder him instead of setting him free.

Oh come on, NO-ONE dies in New X-Men!

And Quireboy, if you could avoid spoiling future issues for those of us who don't read the threads for issues until they come out, that would be dandy, thanks.

my favourite bit was the panel where we see wolverine trying to fix the spaceship with a fuckin screwdriver!

the end sequence was rather 'WOW', tho.

magneto hanging with the special class is kinda dream logic shtick, doncha thunk?

I really liked this issue, I wish it had come before the last one since having seen two X-Men die actually gives Magneto's indifference to them some backbone.

But mostly I wanted to say, in threads about current issues can people either NOT mention things from previews for future issues, or flag them as spoilers for future issues? I don't wanna know what's happening in 150 til I read it. Sorry to sound grumpy.

Actually, Flux, I liked this issue because of the characterization. For the first time, I felt like I really understood the nature of the relationship between Logan and Jean.

I kind of like the characterization of Mags in the last two issues insofar as it seems pretty true to how Magneto on drugs would be, but I'm having a lot of trouble reconciling Kick-ridden Magxorno w/the Machiavellian genius capable of constructing and executing as intricate a plan as he did and pulling the wool over the eyes of absolutely everyone in the process. Unless, of course, there is yet another party pulling the strings of those visibly pulling the strings.

Apologies to Our lady and Dead Crunchy Pirate - and anyone else. I wrongly assumed this was common knowledge on these boards, as it's where I heard the potential spoilers in question. If a mod wants to delete the relevant bits from my previous posts please do so. I will reserve such comments for the related issue threads in future.

I agree with dericgeneric and others that the characterisation of Jean and Logan in this issue was excellent. Jean especially has often been a dull/lifeless character but for the occassional burst of godlike power. Getting a better sense of her humanity on the cusp of her transformation was welcome.

I have similar reservations about the presentation of Xorn/Magneto. Guess we'll have to wait and see. But I don't think because Magneto is clearly wrong that means Xavier is right - just that he's less wrong, or more often right. There's a need for the new mutant generation to find their own philosophy or philosohies - but so far it's just come up with empty, drug induced slogans.

I suspect that perhaps Mags and Xavier are both wrong in assuming that if you aren't going to follow one you'll follow the other. Although the Phoenix and the title 'Planet X' keep making me think of Danny the Planet, I wonder if it's going to end with the mutants sticking two fingers up to the pair of them. As Grant seems to be writing this to return to the status quo of when he took over the title I wonder if the mutants that ran panicking to his school at the start of his run are now going to leave so it just becomes a school for rich, mainly-white types again.

Do you mean Danny the Street from Grant's DOOM PATROL? Who's Danny the Planet?

See the end of Doom Patrol, wolfy.

And wasn't it Danny the World?

I also liked the little retcon GM through in--that "Dark Phoenix" didn't murder a planet full of innocent people way back when so much as she disinfected a redundant "idea." As a force-of-god (so to speak) her actions are totally beyond are morality.

Yeah, it was Danny the World, Getting my Planets/Worlds mixed up...

I just read this, and the rest of Planet X, today, and was completely wowed. I think that this arc more than the other arcs, is less Morrison, and more of the ultimate X-Men comic, touching on all the themes that made the book popular and respected (Phoenix, Jean/Wolvie, Xavier/Magneto). It may not be as much Morrison (though there's still a lot of uniquely GM stuff), but as a fan of X-Men from way back, this almost gives me chills. It is the "ultimate Magneto story." Logan holding Jean and walking into the light was just brilliant. My only regret about getting the singles is facing three weeks until the next issue, and another month after that for the finale of Planet X.
