The Foundry's not a bad idea - more central than most of those others. Does it still have scary babies hanging from the ceiling?

Don't you dare all go and meet in a stylish and interesting bar without me! I'll sulk for weeks, I mean it, I'll be hurt and become utterly apathetic! Friday is going to be boring enough without imagining everyone having a wicked stylish time!

Shoelaces: But maybe I'm just a ponce

yeah.

Joking!

No, I'd be up for a non PL meet, somewhere sitting outside could be nice on Friday night. Any of the places you suggest have beer gardens?

The problem with cool, interesting etc bars is a) I feel all out of place and start looking for a dark corner and b) there's no real beer. I must be one of the few people who actually like Sam Smiths - it's not the greatest bitter in the world, but it's not Stella. Hey ho. I'll just watch the bun fight till something gets settled upon.

I figured the PL would be a good idea since mononoke hasn't been there yet and it IS somewhere that is continually mentioned here - and yeah i like the beer there too- sam smiths pubs also tend to be pretty central and cheap which can also be handy - but hey i'd also be up for going to the ICA bar, but thats mainly for the comics...

Personally, I like the Foundry and it has outdoor seating (sort of).

I definitely agree with the criticisms of the PL, except for the beer because I like the filthbeer. But as sleaze said I thought one of the reasons for the PL was because it's oft-mentioned and mononoke hasn't been there. Mr Bluelaces makes a well-regarded request for a more interesting place, hey I'm down with that as well because London is huge and you can really never run out of new places to check out. But we don't want Ms. Ariadne to suffer a lack of nice Sam Smiths or whateva. So I propose a vote:

PL?

The Foundry?

An As-Yet-To-Be-Named Hipster place?

Wait, are we talking about a different venue for Sunday now, or is that still the Crown?

I take Laces' point, but some of us remember Point 101 and other Barbemeet venues that make ordinary, no-frills pubs seem reassuring and fluffy and safe...

Why not do the PL on Friday (coz you'll get seats somewhere central on a Friday night)?
And go for one of Bluelaces' suggestions for Sunday (anywhere with outside seating that's easy for most people to get to/from)?

And what the hell is the Rockabilly Strip Bar? What a superb name.

This is for Friday only. I think the crown remains the same for Sunday, sounds absolutely lovely, I've always wanted to go there! Anna is an absolute genius. Actually you know I'm going to take the bully by the horns now and start a separate thread for Friday.

My main problem with stylish bars is I tend not to get let in.

Ariadne

Cripes, I never thought of that - it's been a loooong time since I went anywhere with a dress code. And then I only got as far as the door.

I don't think we're talking about yuppie, city-gent, smart shoes bars here, Stoat - can't imagine we'd meet anywhere with a door policy at all, actually.

The Foundary is not that smart, it has dead babies hanging from the celling fer crissakes (note to the easily offeneded: not real dead babies).

Actually, the Foundary sounds interesting for Sunday afternoon, though being a bunch of people that hide from the sun you'd think we were goths or something, it's a toss-up as to whether we'd want to be inside or out. But, unless there's a last minute surge of opinion for that, I'll stick with the Crown.

Is the Foundry that place in Soho with the sculptury thing over the bar? Or am I way off the mark?

Tryphena Absent

Well I don't care- I just suggested The Crown because it's central, easy to get to, I know where the hell it is and it strikes me as a Sunday afternoon giggling kinda place. I confess the dead babies seem gothic but intriguing yet I've no idea where The Foundry is. Location, location, location anyone?

Tryphena Absent

Oh they're going there on Friday plus it's by Old Street- what a trek! Let's stick with what we were going to do. I feel very lazy at the moment. And who the hell is coming on Sunday anyway?

Our Lady of The Two Towers

Me, though I'll probably be sipping coke all evening.

Yes but you're magnificent whether drinking coke or alcohol!

A map here showing the location of the Foundry - cheap beer in a vaguely East European atmosphere.

Okay, fresh from arguing with you all on Switchboard, is anyone still on for Sunday?

Crown?

Eveningish?

I will be at The Crown on Sunday at 6ish and will hopefully see some of you there and don't worry dan, I won't yell at you!

13:16 / 26.06.03
WHAT??? NO YELLING???

And there's me dusting off my yelling hat.

(Tangent: Honestly though, I wouldn't mind going back over some of that in person, as I think a lot of what I meant seemed to be lost/poorly explained somewhere on the keyboard)

The Crown at six? Sounds good. Whereabouts is the pub? I've probably passed it before but just need to be reminded.

It's really close to the plough... hmmm across from "Savoire Faire" and McDonalds on your way towards the street that takes you to Tottenham Ct. Road tube.

This sounds incredibly vague I fear. Can anyone help?

I've never actually been there, so could someone confirm the map?

That's not it... basically it's along the same street but a little closer to Tottenham Court Road station than that. It's called The Crown rather than The Old Crown.

Is that an uncle-sized hangover?

Sorry couldn't make it - I was hanging out in Canary Wharf with my phone turned off for a bit of safe, corporate solitude...
