That was really rather surprisingly good, don't you think? I kinda wrote Spooks off after (the final straw which was) the last episode of season 2, which took the recurring "Zoe and Danny are thicker than ordinary people who watch the news, let alone spies" theme to new heights - "you must be lying Tom, because no spy ever faked their death!" "Conspiracy, you say? We don't believe in those, we're spies!" It all made me very embarrassed that I ever wrote anything even slightly in-depth about the show in this thread, and I was ready to write it off...
But this was actually very good. Better direction/camerawork than usual. Very amoral. Tim McInnery was excellent - I particularly like the way he doesn't get any kind of comeuppance. The Old Boys clubs look after their own. Plus Tom is clearly still mad despite shaving and washing... Oh! And they've finally drafted in another Spy Who Is Not Thick as part of the regular team! That bodes well.
I will be surprised and impressed if the rest of this series is as good. |
