Thank you.

Oh, and I suppose I should say that I quite like it. Looking forward to the Weapon Plus story line after seeing the preview for next issue.

I rather like those preview pages - thanks for posting the link. The first 3 pages read more like FLEX MENTALLO, DOOM PATROL or THE INVISIBLES or THE FILTH than NEW X-MEN, but I kinda dig it as long as we get back to the heart of Cyclop's emotional journey, Emma's fate, all the great characters at the X-Mansion (Beak, Xorn, Dust, Angel, Esme, etc.), Jean's ongoing tranfiguation, etc.

Posssible spoilers are contained in that preview so i'll add a bit of space here...

So it seems that the Weaopon plus program is a biological equivelent/outgrowth of the old sentinel program - which makes wolvie a discarded sentinel himself...a bit like arnie in T2 and T3...

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS BUT HEY: This has been really bugging me- what happened to weapons 0-9, 11 and 14 (ignoring for a second 0 and 1 are in all likelyhood the captian americas)? Who are all those other "super-sapiens" in the tubes?

that is yet to be revealed - if morrison's continuity is not ignored after he has left.

There were a fair few products of the weapon X program... and lets remember that as experiments not all of them will have necessarily survived/escaped...

I thought it had been hinted at that Captain America was Weapon 1 when we first met Fantomex (or however you spell it).
(sorry GITRRS, I really should read all the posts before repling)
And I'm guessing Sabretooth is either Weapon 9 or 11.

It seems the Weapon Plus program doesn't necessarily have one individual for each phase...that is to say, that each new program could produce multiple agents.

Weapon X produced at least a dozen, including Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick, ect ad nauseum.

If Capt. America represents Weapon I or whatever, then he'd represent the other end of the spectrum--his program produced him only, as the solution was lost or whatever....

But again none of it really matters, except in the context of how a writer wants to use them...continuity be DAMNED!
(I see this as a good thing)

SPOILERS

was that the worst psuedo-cliffhanger ever or what? oh, i'm terribly worried cyke and wolvie won't survive.

also, surely if supersentinels is going to be a reality tv show everyone's going to go 'oh this is just a knock off of the x-statics'?

i am really glad this arc is over and looking forward to getting back to the mansion and stuff.

Someone post or PM me a synopsis, quick

Spoilers:

Can't be bothered to give a synopsis.

Main points to note - the head of the Weapon Plus programme is Doctor Sublime - could this be John Sublime? There has to be a connection. But could this be the link between Cassandra, her Sentinels, the U-Men and Weapon Plus?

There's a Weapon Plus informant at the Mansion. (Could this be Sophie? Or is it Xorn? Xorn seems the most likely for the reasons I gave on the NXM loose ends thread. But I'm not ruling out the Cuckoos when we know nothing of their origin just yet.)

Logan's false memory implants. - Could Xorn's memories of his childhood be false? Was he in a version of The World?

Weapon Plus sleeper cells - do these mean the supersentinels in the space station or are there others - Xorn - on earth.

Whoever's behind Weapon Plus - especially if they're behind the U-men as well - could well see the whole world as an evolutionary petrie dish, pitting superhuman against mutant in a bid to evelove the deadliest weapon.

The Falcon
17:59 / 04.09.03
Well, there's one chap who'd do exactly that. And he's in Cyclops' head.

Hrrrm.

Could the informant be unaware of their status as such?

Poor Scott.

Matthew Fluxington
18:36 / 04.09.03
If En Sabah Nur is controlling Scott, it may explain why he inexplicably invited Xorn to teach at the school even though he had just nearly killed himself and the rest of the planet, and had been locked away for five decades.

Xorn may be totally innocent, but En Sabah Nur may have plans for him. Most likely, as a piece of real estate for his disembodied essence.

Quireboy
18:45 / 04.09.03
I don't think Apocalypse is involved. He was purged from Scott's mind. If he is then Morrison is unnecessarily complicating his storyline.

If Logan had false memories about his past implanted then - if he's part of Weapon Plus - why not Xorn?

The Falcon
18:54 / 04.09.03
It need never be overtly stated, as Quentin Quire's attempted assumption of the mantle of Magneto wasn't.

Just a thought. All the build-up in Scott's head, and mentions of 'En Sabah Nur' oughtta lead to something though, no? Sorry to bang on about it.

The fact that he, Xorn and 'Ultimaton' (I promise never to use that again) have the same power seems fairly relevant, too.

Quireboy
19:06 / 04.09.03
The other possibility is that Apocalpse's possession triggers Scott's secondary mutation.

In the future arc we see Nightcrawlers with Scott's optic blasts. I can't help wondering if there's a connection - which doesn't involve the overt return of Apocalypse.

19:21 / 04.09.03
The implication from this issue is that Sublime has been pulling the strings throughout NXM. Whether he's just a fictionsuit for a well-known X-Men supervillian, who knows. But does he need to be?

Matthew Fluxington
19:23 / 04.09.03
Why is En Sabah Nur out of place? His M.O. matches the apparent agenda of whoever is behind all of the things that have been going on in New X-Men so far - artificial evolution, shadowy manipulation, pitting mutants at war with humanity, creating a "New World." He's been mentioned several times over from the beginning of the story. He possessed Scott. He goes back ages and ages, making lots of things plausible. He's the first mutant. He's an ancient evil disembodied spirit! He seems right up Grant's alley.

Emma had to be killed because she found something. Well, where was Emma spending a lot of time? In Scott's head. Who was the only person to flee the crime scene? Scott.

If you're willing to accept the Phoenix Force, Cassandra, and the Shi'Ar Empire, why is it so hard to go along with En Sabah Nur? Is it just because of his stigma from the 90s? Because if you think about it, he's actually way more plausible than Cassandra ever was. And also, remember - Grant Morrison is a man who deliberately had characters like Feral and Richter appear in New X-Men. He doesn't give a fuck about 90s stigma!

Quireboy
19:31 / 04.09.03
God why would I see a stigma attached to the character!

I can see how Apocalypse would fit perfectly - I thought the same thing about a possible motive for killing Emma - it might even explain why Weapon XV didn't kill Scott. But didn't Morrison say he wouldn't be using old supervillians? It's also really predictable. I'd rather that dots joined together without necessarily involving him. Although it would be good to see a writer actually make use of his - up-to-now - wasted potential as a character. However, isn't Austen going to use Apocalypse?

For all we know Cassandra was another of Sublime's creations. That would certainly fit with what's emerging from the Assault arc.

Quireboy
19:40 / 04.09.03
I'd like to add at this point that the Assault arc has been one of the worst in NXM IMO. It feels like it's taken ages for something to happen.

There's been some good dialogue but this could easily have been condensed into two issues. It's seemed padded out. The terrible art hasn't helped.

19:41 / 04.09.03
I'm guessing that John Sublime was this Dr. Sublime's spoiled, rich son. His character fits the character type ("Liquid Diamond Lipstick...what a great name for a band.").

SPYOILADGE

I think the offhanded reference from Sublime to a "new" and dangerous power emerging at the mansion rules out Xorn as the plant, as I'm guessing he's the "new" and dangerous power. I'm also worried that the plant won't just be some peripheral character now. We shall see.

But hey, remember how convinced I was that Xavier and Cassie had not been switched? Ah, those were the days.

I'm looking forward to reading these 40 (41 counting the annual?) issues of New X-Men all in a bunch once they're finished.

Quireboy
19:45 / 04.09.03
Couldn't the new power be Jean/Phoenix? Hence the big hint that she dies (see NXM loose ends thread).

Yotsuba & Benjamin!
19:54 / 04.09.03
After a reread, I realized that new threat is actually most likely Phoenix. Dang. I love you, Xorn. No matter what.

Matthew Fluxington
19:54 / 04.09.03
I would assume that Grant was meaning that he wasn't planning on using older villains for his run, and that's not a lie, really. We've gone through 30 something issues now, and the villains haven't been the old characters. But why would he blow the Big Suprise Ending three years in advance? Grant's a better entertainer than that.

One thing Grant has been consistent with on New X-Men is not bringing up old continuity for no good reason. Scott's relationship with En Sabah Nur has been mentioned several times over - and why? On every occasion after the first time is was mentioned, it's been superfluous. It seems very deliberately planted.

I'd be a lot more disappointed if the person behind everything was some guy we've never seen before. It wouldn't be as exciting and powerful as something that was in the story all along turning out to be a lot more than most people expected.

Dr. Sublime is a fantastic name for a villian, isn't it?

Matthew Fluxington
19:55 / 04.09.03
Jean is pretty much omnipotent through the whole run of New X-Men. What do you think could possibly kill her?

Xorn seems like the only one capable of it.

Quireboy
19:58 / 04.09.03
I'd be more enthusiastic if Apocalypse had seemed a real threat at any time in the past - other than, possibly, his first storyline in X-Factor.

Quireboy
20:01 / 04.09.03
Well we have no idea how powerful Xorn really is.

But if he can turn into a black hole and control gravity, he could kill Jean.

yawn - thing's buddy
20:11 / 04.09.03
the chatty villain at the end, was surely 'bad' grant.

I gotta sat, I enjoyed this diversion.

It was very cheesy. Specially the 'Wolvie reading the screen' section.

But those last three pages were excellent.

Weapon 15 is surely gm's homage to Moore's 'Fury'.

I even managed to end up liking the really quite crap artwork.

I remember GM mentioning 'the domino effect' in the interview I did with him a year ago, now.

Spose this issue was the first slab falling.

I had a ball with this one - nice time lapsey violence but the art'll be better next time. nuke indeed, nice to see him again. was weapon 11/the huntsman not Kane? he had a tracky computer brain to get good with the sniffin with if i remember right. rubbish, or 'Xam!' as they said a long time ago.

like that logan goes mad as arseholes when he does finally see who he is. hope fantomex isn't dead, or at least that he can get a new ship. like the big-brother mess and 'you went french!' i love the french, second best cheeses y'know.
