Pfft. Looks less like he's filled with homicidal rage than like he's got a bad case of gas.

Please say thsi is just some sick joke... the guy looks like a fanboy/wannabe. Is his hair light brown??? WTF?
The perfect punisher would have been Kevin Smith (Aries from Xena) but he died last year.

Oh, it's real. Principal photography starts later this summer, so this may just be a preliminary costume test-shot. It's possible they'll dye Thomas Janes's hair black for the role. They'll never make him look like a tough guy, though...

The guy looks too damn whinny to be Frank Castle..he looks all of 29. First Tobey McGuire, then Ben Afleck and now this... Why aren't casting agents threated with slow torture more often???

Hieronymus
16:51 / 01.05.03
He wasn't too bad in Dreamcatcher (a movie so bad it made Morgan Freeman look like Shatner)

Anything's gotta be better than that Dolph Lundgren pap. I read somewhere they're ditching the Vietnam vet schtick and going for a retired FBI agent.

Never insult Bill Shatner!

Yes, I think he does fit the look of a retarded FBI agent.

i think he is missing the skowl, but really, the idea of the punisher to me was he started as a normal guy who got fucked, then went all nutty, so if this movie is about his entrance into the world of punishing, why cant he look like a regular guy?

>>>First Tobey McGuire, then Ben Afleck and now this... Why aren't casting agents threated with slow torture more often??? <<<

Oh, come on, Tobey "Puddin' Face" Maguire was dead on as Parker. He's not MEANT to be a square jawed hero.

As far as the Punisher goes - this is pretty poor stuff. I remember back when the Dolph Lundgren film was released I was complaining about the lack of the chest insignia - I mean, how hard would it have been to give him a skull t-shirt? But now that I've got what I wanted....yeesh. They should have stuck with the black.

I don't see how this is going to have the same sort of appeal as Spider-Man, Hulk, X-Men or Daredevil - at least there's plenty of special effects superpowery stuff to wow the crowd. This is just a dude with some guns. What's going to set it apart from any other lame Death Wish wannabe from the last 30 years?

People care about this? This is a character that's shit. Really, really shit. A throwback that should never have been allowed back above his grave.

Besides, didn't Vin Diesel just play the Punisher in that flick A Man Apart?

No the idea of the punisher is this ex vietnam vet (winner of the presidential medal of freedom if I recall) became a cop (...its been a while since I took my issues out of the boxes) and had his family taken out by a bomb that was meant for him. He should look like someone who's been through a war and was recovering but is showing all the scars (both physical and emotional)..he should not look like an attendant at the local jiffy-lube.

And Tobey McGuire sucked. (IMHO) He didnt look like a science geek he looked like one of the ubergeeks the science geeks would pick on. All that was missing was broken glasses and a runny nose...hell he looked like one of the morlocks. All the acting was subsubpar. The only redeamming factor was the guy who played the green goblin. Who, although he chewed some serious scenery, actually acted and didnt go through the movie like it was a daytime soap script read. And what the hell was up with the powerranger rejected villain costume??? I was expecting him to start fighting Goku.

by the way, the vietnam war ended 30 years ago, for those of you keeping track of the "continuity" here in the real world.

ONLY NICE THINGS
23:39 / 01.05.03
is anyone else gettign images of portly auteur Kevin Smith as the Punisher now?

I second the emotion - Frank castle, badly-written cipher as he may be, was never a normal man. He started out as a highly-trained killing machine - his radioactive spider was an emotional event that made him decide to use already existent abilities against baddies.

Unless those abilites involve writing excoriating letters to his local paper, I'm not sure about the new look.

(I wish I could just stop this laughter to actually write something coherent without typos)

Its a men's cologne ad, no a deodorant ad... no wait, I've got it, its Peter Parker's idea of playing bad boy in the cellar and thinking about masturbating over some playmate pics with those black gloves. Its actually one of us getting ready to go to a comic book convention.

I was anticipating my wife last night I think all the comic crap that is transmigrating into cinema these days, and believe me, in plain conversation, it is very hard to convey the perfect end result real-flesh ridiculousness without pictures like this one.

And we still have to see Catwoman, Ghost Rider... Ultimates maybe?

And Kegboy and videodrome, couldn't agree more, a retarded FBI agent... you sicko.

I'd force an entry in the theater if they'd got John Woo [or someone close] to direct, Bruce Campbell to play Castle and a shirt that didn't look like it was bought on a comic store.

Danzig: He Pitys the Fool!
11:06 / 02.05.03
If you want a fucked up wartorn vietnam vet, then they should have got Jesse 'The Body' Ventura. I'd go and watch it then. Let's face it, whoever plays a comic book hero always hams it up real bad anyway, and no one hammed it quite like Jesse in Predator. Plus he's corrupt as they come being a politician.

haus, man, i got that same damn thing. and it was worsened by my infamiliarity with the other smith.

i agree about the tshirt; they really could have spent an extra tenner and at least got it with a shiny skull.

as to frank's being a cack character, well, isnt that a lot of his appeal, that he doesnt represent anything all too realistic(like parker's teen angst and homework worries) or meaningful?

maybe gratuitously excessive violence doesnt float your boat, but it does mine.

stil, it will be cack, we all know it will. any ideas who's directing? is ity anyone who might save us all from the mediocrity?

"Between Thomas Jane and some other casting that is coming down in the next couple of weeks, you are going to look at this and say, 'Wait a minute, that's an art-house movie.'"

Ahahahhah.

Deluded.

All I can say is: Why did they have to mess with the logo? It was fine the way it was, simple and iconic. They've added all these little dings and extra lines and contours to what was essentially a very cool skull. It would be like adding little details and talons and wing texture shit to the Batman bat. What's the purpose of this??

As for the casting, the picture, and the recent addition to John Travolta to the cast as the villain, I can only wait and see the movie (or read 32 bad reviews of it when it's in previews) before making a judgment. But my gut feeling is this movie might not be all that great. We'll see.

Not sure why they need to make this sure-fire turkey at all. We already had what, seven "Death Wish" films? Not to mention probably several dozen knockoffs. Why do we need yet another one, differing from the rest only in that the "hero" will be wearing a skull t-shirt?

Yeah but Bronson never did art house, baby. *smirks*

I honestly am curious. If they keep to Ennis's gravel-in-the-belly core, than this can't be too bad.

I hear the short trailer isn't very good -- everyone seems to think Thomas Jane, though a good actor, is miscast.
