Despite (when the jealousy of sausage drives me from his comforting sinewy arms) being more a fan of burgers than pizzas, I have £0.02 to add.
Pre-vegan, my favourite was always thin crust with ham, pineapple and pepperoni. Less is more, indeed. And no one's mentioned Turkish pizza! Absolutely divine. Used to get it all the time when in Oz. Minced lamb, peppers, tomato, onion and parsley, with lemon squeezed over the top. And always lovely thin crispy dough.
For vegan pizza, I second the words of the Count. Lots of oil and lots of sauce. And I second or third the Italian vote. When in Italy last year, earning points in vegan heaven by subsisting on a diet of flour and tomatoes (pasta with tomato sauce for one meal, pizza with tomato sauce for the next, then alternate every day for 3 weeks), I had the best pizzas I've ever had (not counting Turkish). I had many many variations on tomato sauce, some with herbs, some with garlic, and when I saw a restaurant where they listed oil as one of the toppings, I knew I was in good hands. |
