Is there a Marvel John Constantine?

Not Dr. Strange or anyone Defender status. Like a low level magician type character who can talk or see ghosts, something along that line. Some character who hasn't really been used as of late.

How about Jennifer Kale?

Jack Denfeld
10:25 / 29.03.03
I'm not familiar with that Marvel character. Could you give a little bit of information on her? Is she a superhero? Does she have a code name? What books has she appeared in?

it's a shame that i know this really. there's one called pete wisdom who warren ellis wrote for his mid nineties run on excalibur. trenchcoat and fags and that, but, shocker, with dark hair. vague powers of fire-fingers [good for lighting yr lamberts with/ace of wands mutiemagik substitute] and supreme smartarsedness. women luv a bastard and stuff.

Google will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about Jennifer Kale.

You pitching to Epic, J.D.?

Jack Denfeld
12:35 / 29.03.03
Yeah, but it's an old Hellblazer script I sent a couple of years back. Thought I could retool it a bit. And Kale's gonna be in some new series I just read.

Jack Fear
12:41 / 29.03.03
Heh heh.

You and everybody else in the world, son.

Since Epic announced its open submissions policy, Vertigo editors have all gone on vacation, for the first time in ten years...

Jack Denfeld
12:45 / 29.03.03
I should just plug Thor in Constantine's role. No dialect change, still have him talking to Chas, smoking, and drinking.

Jack Fear
12:49 / 29.03.03
Seriously, hough--in the next six months, Epic's gonna be flooded with retooled Vertigo submissions. They're gonna be able to smell 'em a mile away: "Ah, this one started off as a Dreaming story... this one was a Hellblazer story..."

And mostly, those submissions are going to suck rocks.

This is because the best stories grow out of the characters, instead of being all-purpose plots with interchangeable characters shoehorned in.

In other words: if you can effectively tell your John Constantine story without John Constantine, it's probably not a very good John Constantine story. And it wouldn't make a very good Pete Wisdom story, either.

My advice, if you really want to do this: pick a character, and start from there.

Jack Denfeld
12:52 / 29.03.03
Well, it's a good ghost story.

Jack Denfeld
12:56 / 29.03.03
I mean you could effectively tell Morrison's Animal Man story without the superhero Animal Man. I'm tired. Ignore me for the next few hours.

Yeah, Jack, c'mon, yr not dumb - you just KNOW Marvel aren't gonna give a shit for some JC clone. There's plenty of good meat out there....fuck chain-smoking magicians.

M.O.D.O.K is clearly the richest, finest of these meats.

My favourite M.O.D.O.K. variant is M.O.D.O.K.M.O.D.O.K., the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing M.O.D.O.K.

Oh, just in case anyone is interested, the second issue of The Journal of M.O.D.O.K. Studies is set to come out soon.

Jack D, is your story a single issue thing? Is that what they're looking for? It's funny, because the second I saw your thread title I thought "Epic".

And you might be able to tell the Crisis II parts of the Animal Man comics without Animal Man, but you would definitely need to use a character that was on the same obscure level as that character. They should have used Mr. Terrific. Fair play!

No! You mind-reading, evil (Elijah D) Bastard! Leave Robbie alone!
Actually, a couple of comics creators have already put together a proposal for a third, hopefully actually good New Warriors series featuring Speedball, so Nyer.

How many Barbelonians are there? Everyone here should send in a MODOK script, just to freak them out. It should be a Barbelith homework assignment. Oh, and all of the Great Lakes Avengers are currently out of work.

heh, i was looking at the GLA but decided i couldnt do it, i do like the idea of like 100 modok scripts at once though...

Are the Epic submission guidelines up anywhere? I'm up for some quality M.O.D.O.K. Spamming.

YES! Spamming Marvel with MODOK scripts is the reason God made Barbelith happen. But they must be quality MODOK scripts, MODOK scripts that demand to be read. We need to get cracking on this right now. Can everyone get something together in, say, two weeks?

Who the hell is M.O.D.O.K anyway?
