When I did the reading, Lupin was more gravelly, like a cross between John Hurt and Tom Waits. Black was a menacing whisper... a psycho in the dark, or someone just struggling to keep it together for the sake of something he cares deeply about. It softens up later in the book, so he becomes more human, but still. A wanted man. The killer on the front page. Someone not used to talking with a human voice.
I'm trying to think of who, specifically, but I'm drawing a blank. Maybe if you can picture Ian Holm as Bilbo when he starts Golluming out, only much calmer and more precise. |
