05:44 / 25.03.03
I can't stop listening to Mudvaynes new album, or Tools Lateralus.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
07:02 / 25.03.03
All night at work I've been alternating between the new remastered Ziggy Stardust movie soundtrack (incidentally, does anyone have the DVD yet? It came out yesterday but I don't know what extra cool shit you get on it), Swans' "The Great Annihilator", This Mortal Coil's "It'll End In Tears" and the new Front 242 single.

Cat Chant
07:07 / 25.03.03
Absolute Beginners on repeat because it is clearly about a cross-age relationship in manner of Harry and Snape (listen to that 40yo voice singing about his absolute beginnerhood. Yum).

The Puck
09:39 / 25.03.03
the sound of my best mate be sick, the result of him hearing me be sick, which unusally is not the result of drunken excess i think its concussion.

Tori Amos' fantastic third album 'Boys For Pele'.

Bear
09:04 / 01.04.03
Little Fury by Breeders, have I heard them mentioned on Barbelith before I got this song when I downloaded all the tunes that've been on Buffy (nerrrrd!) is there any albums of theirs worth getting?

ONLY NICE THINGS
09:27 / 01.04.03
Dude!

"Little Furry" is from "Title TK", which is pretty good, but you probably want to start with "Last Splash", AKA "The Breeder's Last Splash", which contains "Cannonball", "Driving on 9" and "Hag", and as such rocks touch. ..

Listening to - Hot Hot Heat's new single, "Bandages". Ask Riz about it - he knows about this sort of thing.

Currently listening to Wishmaster by Nightwish, a synth heavy Finnish goth (i think) band, lots of songs about love and loss, actually it's all pretty cheesy but the lead vocalist manages to pull it off rather well, and her rendition of 'The Snowman' is fantastic.

Regrettable Juvenilia
09:53 / 01.04.03
It would be great if that song really was called 'Little Furry' and was about an ickle, wickle furry wurry with fuzzy wuzzy ears.

Aiiieee.

The Return Of Rothkoid
11:48 / 01.04.03
Well, L'Altra's IN The Afternoon has just finished, so I'm listening to myself playing "Holocaust", on the guitar. (Am - Em - Dm - C and C G is all you need.)

ONLY NICE THINGS

In my world, flyboy, it is.

Hewwo!¬

The Return Of Rothkoid
12:56 / 01.04.03
Get back Upstairs, you!

Piano Magic: Artist's Rifles. It's not too bad - a little overwrought, but that's expected, really.

videodrome
02:53 / 02.04.03
The Necks : Hanging Gardens, thanks to Roth.

And hey - is that Ass Coffee disc a review disc? Cause if it is you got it when I cashed in my chips.

The Return Of Rothkoid
04:14 / 02.04.03
Ahh, Necks.

Yep. I can honestly say, at that point, that I was listening to the Ass Coffee Formerly Belonging To Videodrome. There's the name of my second album, right there.

Now, I'm listening to Kim Salmon & the Surrealists' self-titled album. "Redemption For Sale" rocks. And how.

Brave New Waves, on CBC radio 2, 94.1 in Toronto. If the thread topic had included the word "music", this post would be inadmissable as relevant. As it is, there are... noises... coming from my radio, so I guess it counts.

I can now throw all my other records out.

The Return Of Rothkoid

Rain On Lens, Smog.

Bill Posters
14:23 / 04.04.03
One of my favourite things ever, a bootleg Bad Religion German tour tape, the highlight of which is a version of the almighty This Is Just A Punk Rock Song sung in German. Which makes it sound even more punker, somehow.

Thought I would resurrect this thread... I am currently listening to Norah Jones' recent album, for the third time this morning, because it is good music to work to - does not give me a headache or interfere with the workings of my tiny mind. And it is quite relaxing. Bit like a laid back Fiona Apple without the flat voice.

Quantum
08:11 / 16.05.03
Mmmm, Breeders....
I'm not listening to my new minidisc player because I'm at work, but in about an hour I'll be listening to a compilation of mine called Hit me with music, starts with Bob Marley Trenchtown rock and moves on from there. Wish I'd brought Lemon Jelly with me though, I need soothing sounds. Or Norah Jones. Or the Orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld. Or..

So now I'm listening to the Cranes Wings of Joy, my sister having run off with the Norah Jones cd (I can't complain, it being hers). I saw the Cranes in concert last year (with Mogwai and the Cure), and I so wish I hadn't (though to be fair, none of the bands were really that great).

Since it's pouring rain, I have my rainy day music on, which is The Pogues - Peace and Love. Followed by Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation and then lots of Leonard Cohen. Rain!

Spaniel
15:06 / 16.05.03
Tis raining here too.

Thought a nice bit of ravery would keep the miserables at bay, so I'm listening to D'archangelo, specifically Diagram VII (80's mix). It's all plinky plonky synths, electronic washes and sub-bass.

To quote me at 18: "Tuuunnne"

Matthew Fluxington
15:13 / 16.05.03
I'm listening to an archive of the Vanilla Bean's show on WFMU from 10/15/1987. Lots of weird mostly quite rare 80s electropop. Very nice.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:01 / 16.05.03
Right now, I ain't listening to shit, cos it's late and I don't wanna keep anyone awake. But, to my shame, the last few days I 'ave mostly been listening to the new Marilyn Manson album. ("Babble babble bitch bitch rebel rebel party party sex sex sex and don't forget the violence ra ra ra got your lovey dovey sad and lonely stick your stupid slogan in and everybody sing along"... some may say it's bollocks, but I think that's pure genius. Sometimes I think I'm a disaffected American teenager stuck in the body of an English 30-something.)

The Return Of Rothkoid
03:17 / 17.05.03
Second Coming by The Stone Roses. And, unlike, oh, everyone in the UK, say, I like it.

09:25 / 17.05.03
The droning whir of the computer fan with chirping birds in the background over which there is the somewhat stop and go tap-tap-tapping on the keyboard interspersed with the early morning creaks of the house.

Shrug
10:47 / 17.05.03
A covers album by Stina Nordenstam, I love it especially the cover of "purple rain".

The Return Of Rothkoid
16:41 / 17.05.03
Oooh. I almost bought that today. Is it any good?

ONLY NICE THINGS
16:47 / 17.05.03
It's exactly what you'd expect. Quiet, nervous cover versions with a creepy little voice. Fun, but I haven't gone back to it lately.

Listening to - The Olympic Lifts, and specifically "The Chosen Few" - shambolic jocko faux hip-hop, with a certain tea-room something...

The Return Of Rothkoid
02:51 / 18.05.03
Medeski, Martin & Wood's Uninvisible. First thing of theirs I've heard (a record store had Tonic on sale, but couldn't find the disc, the fuckers, a couple of weeks ago) and it's really good. Chunky keys, big acoustic bass, and snap-snap drums. It's enviably good. Oho yes.

Hm. Think I'll give the Stina cover album a miss. To be honest, I'm not as excited by the vocals as I am by Francoize Breut's. Oho... me like those. It's like cowboys in Paris.
