The Return Of Rothkoid
03:34 / 16.03.03
Well, I'm still around. About to have a shower and commence drinking when my houseguest arrives - mmm, Gin! - and am having the day off tomorrow. Anybody know where I can download some decent MAME arcade roms would be?

Baz Auckland
03:37 / 17.03.03
Anyone around? I'm all edgy and freaked about war now and I can't concentrate on my bloody essay on Newfoundland's entry into Canada. Hello?

I'm around. I'm at work.

How's it going tonight? That article on cricket was great.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

It is truly wonderful. Work's okay, actually- I've pretty much finished and now they're just trying to find stuff for me to do for the next couple of hours, then it's off the the pub and a week off work!

My favourite bit in that cricket thing is "You want the moon on a stick for tuppence a month!" I've been saying that to people all night. So far no-one's punched me, but it can only be a matter of time.

Baz Auckland
04:01 / 17.03.03
How could people punch you?

You still have the "Monstered by Beaks" banner? Now THAT was a slogan!

Only 3 weeks left of school, then it's almost 5 months off! Weee!

Grrr. I loathe you with fiery fury. Fuckin' non-workin' scum. :X

The Return Of Rothkoid
11:43 / 17.03.03
Well, I'm here. I was workless scum today, too. 'Cos I had a friend visit. But now I'm Rothkoid The Bummed 'cos ze is moving overseas for a couple of years. Bah.

And still no decent arcade action...

I'm so desperate to do work that I've brought it to the computer room with me in the hope that I can work and chat at the same time! Tsk!

So anyone about and if you are have you had a good day??

Pleasant night - saw the Priestess' "Killign the Captain", which shall be remembered for attracting some of the most absurdly moronic critique ever.

"We never saw the captain! We couldn't tell whether he was really bad!"

Next up, why Godot is a shiftless recusant, and what's so great about Gatsby anyway?

And now, back home and feeling old; am reading a novel set around (or perhaps behind) the events in the Trojan war (K-CC, Deva and Bi_, as well as the usual suspects, may like it - it's cracking children's fiction), which seemed appropriate, and am coming to despise my failing vision and the fading lustre of my hair. Maybe a home help is in order...

a hausboy?

ho ho ho.

I'm okay.

Stressful day much improved by hugs, malaysian food, white wine and finished off with expensive but huge G&Ts and posing...

How're you doing, Anna? How was the jelly and ice-cream?

Mazarine
23:02 / 17.03.03
Bush is on TV, and he's wearing the blue tie again. I'm beginning to fear the color blue.

How are y'all?

Tryphena Absent
23:11 / 17.03.03
I forgot how good vanilla ice cream is but even the extra value stuff is luscious, scrumptious and gorgeous and, well, strawberry jelly

Mazarine- I get the fear. Luckily I haven't looked at Bush today. I've seen Powell, Blair, Cook, Short and Straw but no Bush!!

The guy in front of me and to my right is examining a manga cartoon in her underwear very closely. I'm slightly worried by it.

yeah. we've got him too.

Is it me or is he looking more glazed even than usual.

Great time to go back on the coke, George.

How you doing Maz?

He's got no soul. It's interesting. Look in his eyes, there's absolutely nothing there. Blink. Blink blink blink. Blink. Oh dear, and we're in Orange alert. (Although I must say I prefer the spectrum linked in Haus' blog.) This is, of course, not good.

Mazarine
23:17 / 17.03.03
Not good across the board, I mean, not the "we're in the orange" thing.

ONLY NICE THINGS
23:21 / 17.03.03
whenever anyone says "Orange alert", I always expect Rover to rise up from the sea around Portmeirion. That would fix Saddam's hash - a huge white weather balloon. I can see his moustache pressed into the plastic now...

I can't believe it. We are officially a rogue state, and our Flash Gordon is a wee Scots sex pixie. This is all very, very wrong.

Right am going home to watch the news channels, note the colour blue and swear continously at the screen. Hopefully I'll catch Cook's speech as well because the last few lines rocked but I suspect the rest may have been mildly pants! Sleep well people!

Mazarine
23:53 / 17.03.03
Good night, Anna.

Oh, thank you Haus. That made me laugh. Dammit, reading about the democracy of Athens for school isn't helping. All we need is for the dread pneumonia to make it stateside and it's gonna be uncannily similar to the Peloponessian wars. Christ I need me a life.

The Return Of Rothkoid
00:11 / 18.03.03
Well, I've not seen any blue ties yet today. I'm avoiding the news sites, because obviously if I can't read about it, it doesn't exist.

Hrm.

Am listening to Tigermilk and feeling all wussy. Oh, yay me. Who is still up?

ONLY NICE THINGS
00:15 / 18.03.03
That supposes that Dubya is Pericles, and the USA democratic, which seems something of a stretch. What this whole messy business does remind me of is the Mytilenean debate - first round has indubitably gone to Cleon, but there seems no Diodotus waiting in the wings....

Mazarine
00:49 / 18.03.03
Well, since I'm not familiar with Thucydides, I had to go look that up and, um, brr. Wow. You're actively not wrong.

"Unlearned loyalty is more serviceable than quick-witted insubordination."

Mazarine
01:11 / 18.03.03
Well, that's enough thought for me for one night, I'm going back to reading slash.

Hunh, odd coincidence. I've never opened one of these late night threads, and the first time I do Haus & Maz are comparing Bush to Cleon. I was just working over some notes comparing him to Agesilaus, though I considered Lysander, too; I've got Clinton as Alcibiades.

bengali in platforms And did anyone notice that the 'a strike against Iraq is a direct strike against Al-Qaeda' 'logic' made a timely reappearance.

Maybe all the discredited arguments will return with Bush and Blair using the excuse that our boys are now fighting as the reason why you can't now disagree with them.

"And, we have proof that Saddam stole all the chocolate ice-cream from a children's party in Rhyll. And you know that if you disagree with me you're killing our brave soldiers."

Look everyone- I've written something completely nonsensical:

The placement of the woman as primary consumer is important to her role within the realm of the gaze. The feminine is the observed as the masculine plays the role of observer. The female thus has a relationship with clothing that the male does not have, she flaunts herself as the male does not, yet she remains the vulnerable creature because she is watched.

I. am. David. Attenborough.

Am hunting spare tickets for Interpol on Saturday. Well, not really. I'm hoping by mentioning it one of you will have a friend of a friend who...

Well, that's enough of that. I'm off to email a man about a dog!
