Well, I don't know what's happened, but the 'new posts showing up gold' thing is finally working properly for me after months of not doing anything.

It is happening....again

Yeah, server falling over again, SQL errors and the like, is it just 'sheer weight of traffic" as they say on the M25 or something else?

Yep, finally able to log on after a couple of hours' error messages. Lizards tampering with the html?

Ditto. SQL messages all over the place. Assumed it was a heavy traffic thing...

I'm getting loads of SQL errors when I try and check my pms. I've not deleted any pms since last March (2002), so I have loads of them, and I thought that was the problem.

Also occasionalment, loading any page in the underground goes v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y... talking more than a few minutes load time in some instances.

It's running very slowly at the moment. My browser gives speeds sometimes dropping down to tens of B/s when I'm getting 60-odd KB/s from the BBC. Obviously I don't expect the same speed from Barbelith as the Bombay Bicycle Club, but this is very low on what is currently a 600K line.

The problem we're having is to do with the MySQL server that pair are providing. Fairly regularly it times out because someone's clearly hitting that database server pretty heavily. I dont' really know what to do about it apart from move us up to a dedicated server with all the costs that would involve...

Thanks for the info, Tom. Having re-read my post it occurred to me that it might have read like a complaint -- it wasn't, I was just, you know, saying, in case there was something that could be done easily or cheaply. I didn't really mind the wait. BTW, it's running fine now.
