Fair do's... I don't think its the best shop either... but I've always found them really helpful on returning stuff...

(for me there was also probably a convenience thing, as I used to work right round the corner and could pop there in my lunch hour)

Annnnywwwwaaaay, why are we talking about shops when we could be talking about *toys*

Ok, Suedehead - Sh! stock several low-priced vibes.
Flipr Vibe - £12
Mini Jelly G - £9
Ez-Pleaser Vibe - £12
Tiny Touch Vibe - £12
Dolphin Top VIbe - £12

They are all in a recent catalogue, though they may not be in the online store, you can almost definitely order them, and Sh! are reliable. They all look ok, depending on what you're after, but other more mainstream sex-shops will have a variety of other stuff too.

Hmmm. Yeah, i've seen a few around my (admittedly cheap) price range. I'd quite like to get a decent one though, and I feel slightly flawed in that I have no idea really. has anyone tried any of those? Are they quiet? Do they work (well) ?

I think there's a few in Ann Summers as well. I dunno how decent they are, but they seem to be the only shop round here that isn't run by a sleazy sweaty man who would scare any respectable person.

And I think i've handicapped myself more by wanting it to be a "surprise present".

I mean, I've seen a few that I think would be decent. But I'm clueless you see, but I guess I could just take a chance, it's only £10. Hm, if it helps anymore, I'm basically just after something that does the job. Preferably (as) quietly (as possible).

Sorry for being kind of useless.

Jelly ones are often quieter, but the vibrations are less intense. So the Flipr and the Mini Jelly G are possibilities for a quiet one. No vibrator is completely silent, whatever they say. A lot of cheaper vibrators apparently have a short shelf-life, but your friend'll probably get some joy out of any one for a little while. The more batteries and the bigger the batteries the more intense the vibration. Check out LoveHoney - they have next day delivery if you order before 4pm for less than £3 and they'll probably have something. Anne Summers stuff in theory should be at least semi-decent. I don't think you can really go too wrong, you know?

And all the vibes I listed look pretty cool, fairly stylish, except for the Mini Jelly G (but I had a bigger G-spot jelly vibrator when I was a teenager, and it was shite, so I'm biased). Check out Sh! and LoveHoney for online shopping, and I'm sure Anne Summers can probably come up with something.

Classic vibes at LoveHoney from less than £7. I tend to think if they're well styled they probably be half-decent at least. I personally quite like the look of the Amour Probe and the Vibro Explorer, and that's just the first page. But I am an SF fan, so... it's trial and error, but if it's hir first vibrator, at least you'll be giving hir something to work from.

I account for like half the posts on this thread. I'm going to shut up now. Honest.

My friend Emily is a reviewer for Lovehoney - she gets paid to test vibrators. Isn't that just the best job in the world? She also runs Cliterati, erotic fiction for women - she's an expert on female sex-positive issues.

Re. my feedback letter to the Natural Contours lot about the Ultime...they wrote today and they're sending me a free Magnifique. Which I think is pretty damn nice of them, really. So I just wanted to mention it in case anyone else is thinking of buying something from Natural Contours - they're really very good with customer feedback, whatever you think of their vibes.

You can also get latex kits for making your own dildos - so if you have a willing male or another vibe to take the mould from... sic

and really, I ask you, what guy wouldn't be anything short of gobsmackingly flattered to have his girl using a representative true-to-life likeness of (ahem) Himself in the absence thereof?

Digital Relic: I don't know. I mean, there's a definate potential for creepyness here. ("Nice knob, love. Shame about the rest of you... oh, hey! Latex!")

On the other hand, there seems to be a pervasive attitude in modern Western sexual culture that the penis is ugly, unclean, and ludicrous. The existance of mould-making kits is positive because it argues against this version of the cloaca concept. ("Yes, I quite like dicks. In fact I like this particular one so much, I'm going to make a few copies. Any problems with that?")

kitschbitch: I am very jealous. sounds like a tough gig, that.

can't find a link to them, but I have some rather lovely clamps that deserve bigging up. Although they're pretty small, they're square, metal frames, which fit round the nipple and have a snape-shut hinge, and a screw in piece to tighten/loosen. they are fab. And look great as well, like having bits of meccano/building material hanging off someone.

will try and find a pic.

Sorry, a snap shut hinge.

I think I may have been reading too slash recently.

They sound like the gate clips we used to use to control the flow of urine through catheters. Amazing the bodily pleasures to be had from odds and ends lying about in surgical wards.

I'm definitely with Digital Relic here.
Imagine a couple in a long-distance relationship.
The request for a personalized dildo should go down well, there. Definitely better than grabbing any old cock with attached man off the street I would think.

Yup, me again (what can I say, it's a sex toy fetish, you should see my collection). I recently bought the Silent Rocket, manufactured by Doc Johnson sex toys. I already had a Pocket Rocket, which kicks arse but is rather loud. Anyway, the Silent Rocket allegedly has the same power as the Pocket Rocket. Which is completely untrue. Me no recommendy the Silent (it's not silent, either) Rocket.
