It's mostly crap with Quantum Physics thrown in. But what do I know. Ask Nick Herbert about this one.

thanks for fixing the link, sorry. a lot of the chaos/quantum stuff is seems more like postmodern fluff. but the idea of the living book, or a work of art that extends itself beyond its initial limits. when i first read the catalog i thought it was a clever to tell a story and then i found the rest of the articles. they created an interesting mythos but i never beleived it. is matheney's disappearence a publicity stunt or is this an actual example of foucalt's pendulum-i.e. he conspiracy theory he created out of thin air actually does exist. or, as he asks in one his articles, did the act of writing it on the manner that he did bring it into existance?

He's just reinventing/ripping off Borge's "Tlön, Uqbar, Urbis Tertius" tale, then?

I wrote a bit on them on my web site [URL=http://www.technoccult.net/laboratory/ongshat.html
]here[/URL]. I think it's fairly interesting stuff. If you think it's crap try not thinking of it litarally.

Anyone care to explain what´s this all about?

I´m curious, especially about:

Mr. Whisper: "the conspiracy theory he created out of thin air actually does exist. or, as he asks in one his articles, did the act of writing it on the manner that he did bring it into existance?"

Edited cause I hadn´t seen Klint´s link. Going to check it out now.

Actually, Peter Lamborn Wilson created Ong's hat (he wrote the catalog). Matheny then took it way further for his own purposes.

Uh... no. Peter Lamborn wilson did not write the catalogue. Where are you getting your info from?

Well, I stand corrected. I now have it on good authority that Peter Lamborn Wilson had nothing to do with the catalog. Hakim Bey actually wrote it.

Yer a sarcastic little monkey, aren't you? Heheheheh. Anyway, while brother Hakim claims he had nothing to do with it, he also claims he didn't write Visit Port Watson either, and we all know *that's* a lie. Brother Hakim isn't what you'd call a reliable source, especially about his own pranks.

Moorish japery aside, here's my theory: Hakim wrote the initial Incunabula schpeil with the help of Nick Herbert and tossed it out into the mail art underground. Matheny found it and ran with it. Subsequent obfuscations have made it nearly impossible to determine if there's any flatspace reality to the Egg/Travel Cult stuff, but as I put it on one of the Incunaboards, "Just coz it's a lie doesn't mean it's not true."

The Incuna-meme does seem to attract wierd intra-freak squabbling and crapflinging, but there's some gold in them thar shit-hills. The dream of the Egg is, I think, as important as the physical reality (or lack thereof). And hey: Mormonism works, and Smith stole that from a novel.

I have always thought that man wouldn't have ever made it to the moon if it were not for those old sci-fi pulp novels. Now, if it wasn't for Incunabula, man wouldn't have the ability to travel to alternate dimensions through the use of eggs and Tantric sex.

Surprised no one ever posted this:

Open letter to conspiracy community

Nick and I decided today to publicly announce in the near future that the Ong's Hat Project has now concluded. We will be contacting Peter L. Wilson as well and see if he'd like to make a statement. I think it would still make a good book from a cultural anthropology perspective, your call.

My program has finished running and I am being recalled from duty. I think we were successful in laying the groundwork for the coming change. The gateways are open now.

I am glad to finally be myself again: 7:37 PM PST.

PS: This is not a joke.

thoughts? Can the Incunabula conspiracies be shut down by it's creators (and who didn't at least kind of suspect Peter L. Wilson, Joe Matheny, and Nick Herbert of creating the whole thing?) Or will the theories continue on indefinetly?

Also, did any one "play the game" so to speak? Personally, Incunabula was were I got introduced to Quantum Theory and the Moorish Orthodox Church. So a bit of gratetude is owed there at least.
