Moorish japery aside, here's my theory: Hakim wrote the initial Incunabula schpeil with the help of Nick Herbert and tossed it out into the mail art underground. Matheny found it and ran with it. Subsequent obfuscations have made it nearly impossible to determine if there's any flatspace reality to the Egg/Travel Cult stuff, but as I put it on one of the Incunaboards, "Just coz it's a lie doesn't mean it's not true."
The Incuna-meme does seem to attract wierd intra-freak squabbling and crapflinging, but there's some gold in them thar shit-hills. The dream of the Egg is, I think, as important as the physical reality (or lack thereof). And hey: Mormonism works, and Smith stole that from a novel. |
