True - his wages only came to about - what? - 300,000 or so? Plus 200,000 for the "nominal fee". That's not bad going at all for an international midfielder. I guess I was partly thinking of the damage done to West Ham's image and community projects as well...not to mention that if somebpody had played instead of Bowyer, and had been less anonymous, West Ham might have scraped another win somewhere along the line and thus avoided relegation. But that's all very much in the bounds of theory.
On other relegatees...di Canio for Portsmouth seems credible - he must know that he would be at best a fringe player at Lazio, and he seems to love being an iconic figure. Has anyone heard anything about Koumas? He showed genuine class last season, at Tranmere and West Brom, and I reckon some club might be ready to take a chance on him, as he has more of a pedigree than most young British players, stuck in the reserves or on loan to the lower divisions. He might not be a bad buy for Liverpool, in fact, although Houllier would then never play him... |
