But I don't want to know about Grendel! (At the moment at any rate...). I want to know about Lone Wolf 2001! Does anyone know anything about it or have an opinion on it, or is it not held to be proper like?

On a side-note, I just noticed in the new Previews that at least two (and, I would assume, eventually all) of the Lone Wolf And Cub films are being released on DVD. Region 1 DVD, anyway.

The comic shop near my parents house is going out of business after 20+ years. My sadness is tempered by the fact that the store has been in steady decline for years and that I was able to buy the last 14 volumes for $2.50 each.

Off to finish the series now.

Darren Aronofsky is attached to develop and direct a live-action adaptation acording to CBR.com. That will be worth watching and hopefully not as silly as the Babycart series.

Samurai Executioner

Before Koike and Kojima created Itto Ogami, they created Kubikiri Asa, better known to Lone Wolf readers as Decapitator Asaemon. He was the equal to Itto, bearer of the sword Onibocho, the man charged with the duty of testing the swords for the shogun. Samurai Executioner is based on the decapitator himself, in life before his fatal duel with Lone Wolf.

Due out July 28th 2004.

This series is epic and sprawling, and after about two years of randomly picking up the books, I am down the last few. I love the intricate detail of Bushido, and all its laws and contradictions. I love the sense of honour, and the way it guides the characters lifes. I love the way that Itto claims Daigoro's life means nothing to him, but it obviously does. I also find it fascinating, how in the last issues, that two enemies can stand side by side to work together. Although I haven't read the end, I know it isn't going to turn out for the best, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am looking forward to the new series, and will follow that as well. Darren Aronofsky is behind a new version, which IMDB claims to be out this year. I am a little uneasy, as I hated PI, but have heard Requiem for a dream to be rather good.

For further Lone Wolf influences, see Grendel: War Child and Road to Perdition.

Oh and a message to dark horse, please collect the covers, in one volume, in a larger size.

Less of the spoilers,, please!

I've so far read the first 6 of the small-format DH ones, and they rock. They rock a lot. (I'm trying to keep myself to a couple every two months.)

I LOVE Itto's facial expressions. They're something I think the Babycart films did very well indeed. (I actually think the Babycart films are good movies... I thought everyone did. Is this not the general consensus?)

I got used to the right-to-left layout style from Ironfist Chinmi, but I do prefer the larger format comics.
God, I've got that 80's computer-game style soundtrack stuck in my head now...

"They say that a perfect cut across the throat will make a noise like wind through hollow reeds. I had always dreamed of making such a cut, but to hear the sound from one's own throat... isn't that funny?"

I always like the Shogun Assassin dub to that scene (immortalised on Genius' "Liquid Swords" album)... "but to have it happen to my own neck... is... ridiculous".
Various people have told me the story gets more intricate as it goes along... I'm looking forward to this, as it does have a truly epic feel to it, which would probably be better suited to an ongoing tale rather than a series of (admittedly fucking ace) vignettes.
