Psychotic theorem hour: Humans as insect/reptile hybrids

This is an idea I had recently. It is a rewritting of the creation myth of humanity utilising my semi-invented, semi-stolen notion animal macrospirits in conflict as a metaphoric model to describe the theory.

Let me tell you a story.

Long ago, the world was ruled by two great animal totems. One the great and terrible god of the reptiles, the other the rhizomic pattern making god of the insects.

The reptile god ruled the land and sea. The insect god rule the underland and air. Each viewed the other as an inversion. Its evil opposite.

The wrathful reptile god grew jealous of the many achievements of the insect god. The insect mind could build, the insect mind could fly. The reptile god, at that time, could do neither. Its anger grew through its failure to fly, inability to build.

"If I cannot have these gifts, none shall!" bellowed the reptile god, and it raised its mighty claws and jaws against the insect god.

The reptile attacked with fury, lashing out with its full strength.

The insect god saw the futility of the action. It was not going to be destroyed by this frontal attack. It would just shed as many selves as it needed until the reptile tired.

But the reptile did not tire. Its frustration only grew. It was the insect that began to tire. The futility of the struggle would destroy them both.

So, deep within the calculating insect mind a plan was concocted. They would turn this to their advantage. A golden opportunity had appeared in the form of a diabolus. An opportunity to evolve.

They would let the reptile win. For the reptile could not win, a truth that would not dawn on the spirit until too late.

The reptile fought on, victory was in its sights. It arrived at the centre of the insect mind. It prepared for the final blow.

The blow is struck. Victory. Its mistake is then revealed. The insect mind cannot be crushed, for if even one bee survives the whole mind continues. This was a trap, to capture the reptile mind within the insect mind. One becomes the other. The insect will become the reptile, the reptile will become the insect.

The womb of the human mind.

Neither insect not reptile was destroyed by this conflict. For the war was only a dellusion of the reptile. All that the insect god imprisoned within itself was the reptiles seed consciousness.

The spirits had sex. And gave birth to a new spirit that matured through many forms until here I write these words. The child displays many of the traits of its parents, but it itself is unique and individual.

...

So, do you think it works?

You didn't metion how humans have inherited the predatory traits of the reptile and the hive society of the insect.

But yeah, that's fuckin cool

I think it can also tie into alien abduction theory. Anthropmorphising insect consciousness into the grey alien. Reptile consciousness perhaps into the saurian nightmare. NonAliens vying for control (or at least influence) of the human consciousness construct, sort of metaphysical parents sqabbling over visitation rights.

The machine elves are insect consciousness probes.

Dunno about it being a good theory, but it would make a hell of a book

Great myth. Now all you need to do is start a cult and rake in the cash. I'd join in a second.

Since there is no "the sensemilla" topic area, does anyone have any ideas where this should be moved to?

The Magick? It's more magicky than headshoppy.

That is cool.
You could also talk about humans with insectile-dominant traits: pattern-makers, city-dwellers, net-denizens; and with reptile-dominant: warmongers, travelers (have to go where the sun is hot), trend-hoppers... traditional farmers vs. traditional hunter/gatherers...
Also, tying this back into magick, I think Peter Carroll's essay "Baphomet" in Psychonaut ties into this theory very nicely.

Another idea I had ties into this as well. The evolution of birds. At a certain point in history a reptile 'imagined' what it would be like to fly. It was this imagining, this conscious act, that lead to the evolution of wings. All the decendents of this imaginer inherited its innate desire to fly, and with each successive generation this dream came closer to a reality. Thus the dream gave rise to the pterodactyl, then the feather. The closer the dream came to truth the more transformed those who followed the dream were, till they were reptiles no more.

The individual reptile and her dream became all that is birds. She is the spirit totem of birds, even though she was not a bird herself. The angry reptile god gave birth to a daughter, the goddess of birds. In this idea a god or animal spirit is born through individual consciousness or conscious act. Thus the dream of flying evolved into the physical embodiment of flying. The individual that instigates the dream becomes the goddess. The 'instinct' of birds being the voice of the animal totem goddess in their minds. Like a hive mind or collective consciousness.

She resides as goddess until fully individuated consciousness emerges in birds, then she withdraws (or becomes the individuals and therefore is nolonger a macromind animal totem). Perhaps a similar process could be said to have occured with humans. The human spirit totem (the holy spirit perhaps?) gave us our instincts. As we have evolve and become more individuated we become more distant from our spirit totem/collective unconscious.

But as we become more conscious we become our own spirit totems, or perhaps our own guardian angel. Each individual a diety.

Yes I think this belongs in magic...

Fool: That's a very interesting theory, the evolution of birds from reptiles, especially since birds are now thought by many paleontologists to be evolved from dinosaurs. It's important, though, to recognize some important differences between reptiles and saurians (dinosaurs/possible intelligent descendants).

One major one is that analysis of fossils now seems to indicate that saurian young were warm-blooded (presumably to gain body mass faster) and then transited to a cold-blooded existence (theoretically because it requires less food). This is obviously not a trait of any existing reptile.
