It's a bit underwhelming. There's some recycling of songs from other sountrack projects, too: I think "Sky Blue" turned up elsewhere.
It's fairly dark: certainly not that many poppy moments. Like most Gabriel, it can collapse under the weight of its own po-facedness, but there are some genius moments on it - "Growing Up" has a fucking great bassline. It's not everyday listening, but quelle surprise.
In common with his other stuff, though, the production is very layered. There's always something interesting going on in the background. And there probably should be, given that it took ten years to release the fucker. Windowsmedia has previews of tracks here.
Summary: not bad. Pretty consistently dark, probably have to be in the mood to listen. But some great parts... |
