I love the new album. It's got a very vibrant and strong sound which isn't overproduced but rather where they were going.

I've never really been into them but just started working for thir label and have been listening to the new album since last month. I think fans will be very pleased.

I might get the new one very very soon, like today even, despite the fact that I ought to wait until I'm sure I have enough money.

A kind soul gave me a copy of Light & Magic the other day and I've been enjoying that a great deal. As per usual, I couldn't disagree more with "I'm Rick Jones, bitch" about their sound. I think it was a live performance of 'Seventeen' that I once saw that convinced me that was a boring song, whereas in fact, on record, it's marvellous, largely thanks to lots of little production details that might well be lost if the sound wasn't so 'clean' and distinct.

Haus:

"Is it me, or do they oddly recall the Pet Shop Boys?"

They do! I heard one of the album tracks in Virgin today, and thought: "Who is this? Broadcast?* No, different singer, she sounds like a female Neil Tenant.."

No idea which track it was, but it was bloody *gorgeous* and, thinking about it, very PSB-at-their-most-windswept-and-lovely-esque. Good enough to make me put the album on my shopping list, and I've always been fairly 'meh' about Ladytron.

* nice use of distorted, pushed-to-destruction synth noises made me think that

I wonder if the track Saveloy heard might have been 'International Dateline', which I think might be the best thing they've ever done.

'Seventeen' improves and in fact becomes addictive with repeat listens. Like a Shaggs' song, really. Or 'Girl from Ipanema'.

I am loving Witching Hour. Combines that wintry forlorn thing they do so well ('Beauty #2' just makes me expect snowflakes to start falling any minute) with more danceable tracks ('Weekend' is another highlight in addition to the songs already mentioned - again, there's definitely a PSB sound there).

Yeppers. Looking forward to it, although I'd like to listen to the album a bit more - the version on my iPod has some jumps which I hope are not on the CD but haven't had a chance to check.

I've just been reminding myself of how good Ladytron are via their website. Zmeyka, Discotraxx. Wow! Most of 604 used to be on my computer, where is it? Damn! Light and Magic still bobs up occassionally on my playlist too but is slightly too subdued at times for my taste. And although I haven't heard much of Witching Hour it seems to go back somewhere toward that intensity of 604.

There renaissance of rotation has been due to seeing two of them last week playing a dj set. Very little original stuff but then again who cares, they remix so well. All I could identify clearly was a version of what I later found out to be (with help) ex Pizzicato 5 vocalist Maki Nomiya's "I was made for lovin' you". I didn't bother getting Softcore Jukebox but may well look into it now.

Velocifero's out on itunes as of yesterday morning. Anybody else listen to it yet? I'm hesitant to form opinions yet. It's not breaking new ground, and it's very much not Witching Hour--it doesn't have any of the same gorgeous energy or immediacy (or, for that matter, flawless singles). It's a bit stompy disco, particularly the leadoff, Ghosts, which never seems to go anywhere beyond the hinted enormity of the beat at first.

So it's a bit like Light and Magic ("The Reason Why", particularly), which I wasn't a huge fan of initially, but thought was much better live (Evil and Fire, particularly, improved with less muddle in the arrangements). They'll be here in a month, and I still can't wait, so I'll see how my thoughts develop over the next few weeks. But right now, it mostly makes me want to listen to Witching Hour, over and over and over again.

Just got Velocifero last week. Loved it. Not much else to say (except that I get to see them on the 30th. yay.).
