Hamiltons arrested for sex crimes

Neil Hamilton and his wife Christine have vehemently denied allegations of serious sexual assault made against them.

The couple, who left Barkingside police station just after 8pm, told journalists the allegations were monstrous.

The Hamiltons, who were accompanied by a lawyer and television presenter Louis Theroux, stopped briefly to address reporters.

Mr Hamilton, 52, said he and his wife denied the allegations.

Mrs Hamilton, 51, said: "It is an absolutely monstrous fabrication and a lie."

The Hamiltons left the police station after being released on police bail.

No charges were made.

Their lawyer Michael Coleman made a lengthy statement outlining the allegations made against the high-profile couple.

He said that the couple were questioned over accusations that they had carried out indecent acts while a rape was being committed. Mr Coleman told reporters that Mr and Mrs Hamilton had been arrested by arrangement with the police.

He said: "An accusation has been made against them that they took part in a rape and indecent assault in Ilford on Saturday May 4. The details of that allegation are quite horrific and I think it is appropriate for you to know of the allegation.

"It has been said that Mr and Mrs Hamilton were in a flat in Ilford when a young woman was raped. Those allegations have been denied absolutely by Mr and Mrs Hamilton. They have co-operated entirely with the police and have supplied the police with details and information as to where they were that day.

"They have also given the police total access to all their private affairs, their telephone records, their credit card records and such like in order that the police can fully investigate this allegation which has been made against them."

I am utterly skeptical about this for some reason.

Jeeze, Louise. Please let this be some sort of windup.

Max Clifford is involved in this - the woman who's brought the allegations hired him before she went to the police. Clifford and Hamilton are both shits, so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

Well thats my reason for being skeptical then!

Man, I really, really hope this is made up. I can imagine a worse scenario than for someone to be sexually asaulted whilst the Hamiltons look on, laughing (and the whole thing being taken down and reported on by Max Clifford) but I really don't want to.

Am I dreaming this?

The girl would have more credibility don't you think if Max Clifford wasn't involved, so I think this is huge smear campaign type thang.

Why would you need a PR man to report a rape?

Point. Oh, gawd. I really, really, really hope I'm dreaming this.

From today's Guardian:

Michael Coleman, solicitor: "'One point which came out during the course of their interviews, which is probably appropriate for you to know [sic], is that the police raised the name of Max Clifford. The purpose of the police raising that name we do not know but it is a matter obviously that the police may wish to enlarge upon at some later stage.'"

Sounds like free publicity...

"That name again, was Max Clifford. No reason, no connection, just thought we should raise it. Spelt c-l-i-f-f-o-r-d. You know, the publicity guy..."

Louis!?! NO!! I thought you were a good guy..

Maybe he was doing one of his 'gentle mocking of washed up celebrities' programmes on the Hamiltons and got, well, more than he bargained for..

And this;

is a mental image I could really have done without this morning. Or indeed, any morning.

I mean, disgraced MPs, Max Clifford, RAPE, mild mannered TV personalities, being arrested 'by arrangement with the police' .. does ANYONE have a straight answer as to what the fuck this is actually about (if anything)?

Louis is making one of his bland 'lets hang around with the hamiltons and see if Mrs H. dresses up like a dominatrix at night' programs about them.
Clifford claims to have a grudge against the Tories because he has a heavily handicapped daughter who suffered because the last but one Government was shafting the Health Service. He also, for now at least, doesn't seem to be directly involved. When the woman told him what happened he told her to go to the police. He won't become involved again until she decides to sell her story to the papers, which would only be post court-case anyway.
This whole thing does sound very suspicious though.

Sad limelight-ophiles that they are, they've probably orchestrated the whole thing themselves...

If you're really sick, go and buy the News of the World: "Rape girls claim of wild lesbian lust with Christine" "Blonde alleges she was snared by net sex ring" and there are some yucky pictures too Chrisinte kissing an Oxforc student and Neil on his knees before a girl with his tongue out.

The Daily Mail on the other hand: "Hamilton accuser has cried rape before" "the accuser is a lesbian fantasist witha crush on the former MPs wife"
The Daily Mail also has the transcripts of the interview tapes made by the police and the hamiltons.

Fascinating...

Should the Mail have the tapes?

And a sad Pavlovian fact, the fact that the Mail thinks it's rubbish suddenly makes me want to hope that it's true...

And the Hamilton's are apparently going to sue the police. For what? Following up an accusation?

Switchboard. I say only that this should be moved to the Switchboard.

Or buried in a deep well. Eeeeergh....

Mind you, why the Hell was Louis Theroux *still* with them? Surely even they would have had the sense to suggest that he fuck off?

I don't know. I have a theory that this could all be a set-up, whereby the Hamiltons are torn apart by the tabloids, but they know full well they have not actually done anything.
This will then enable them to a; sue as many tabloids as possible (I'm fairly sure that Neil still needs a bob or two for court costs from last time) and
b; It allows them to say, next time something comes up, 'Well, look at what happened LAST time. Surely you don't believe THIS allegation?'

Oh and Haus (sorry to keep on going on about your posts, old boy)

Switchboard. I say only that this should be moved to the Switchboard.

Isn't the switchboard for people who are still connected with politics? (Cheap dig at Hamilton - but hey, the guy is a shit anyway.)

Are you kidding? Now he has a chance of making a program people might want to see!
(It's the new duality, Louis Theroux/Jon Ronson!)

They're certainly embracing the media like nobody's business ('everybody's business'), doing their utmost to keep it on all the front pages (and leaking transcripts of the police interview?) Either they're very very stupid and are relishing their moment in the limelight again (likely) or they know something we don't. The whole thing's been distinctly rum from the word go...

One thing that bothers me: they've declared themselves bankrupt and they owe Fayed 1.5 million; how come they're having 'champagne dinner parties' in their 'Battersea flat' and heading off to their 'country home'? Cunts.

Our Lady of The Two Towers

I suspect all their goodies are registered in someone elses name (or maybe Christine's) so legally Fayed cannot get at them. Jonathan Aitken, IIRC, divorced his wife soon after his libel trial collapsed, just so she could have all their wordly goods and the newspapers couldn't get much off of him. It's one of the many loopholes of the rich and scummy.

Can a bankrupt sue for libel and keep the money?

Not really, I would hate to have the Police, or anyone for that matter poking around my hard drive, simply because it has all my creative writing and pictures on, and I am a private person, as I presume, are the Hamiltons who probably have private letters and emails saved on there that they don't want the police and the press to get ahold of.
