Magical help for an insomniac

I have this on-line friend who lives overseas. He suffers from insomnia. Sometimes he goes for 3 days or more without an hour's sleep. He's been tested but as far as the doctor's can tell nothing's wrong with him (he's 30 years old). He's so tired he can't even work and gets sick pay. I want to help him (I've suggested meditation and stuff) but nothing seems to work. I wish I could help him via magical means. Any ideas? A spell or a sigil maybe? The poor guy needs his sleep...

On the topic of meditation, if he can sit still long enough to practice proper void meditation, this can replace the need for sleep. Not entirely a solution, but possibly a good coping mechanism.

What about relaxation exercises? Some excellent stuff in John Mumford's book "Chakra and Kundalini Workbook". There's an accompanying tape as well, Yoga Nidra which will absolutely knock yer socks off. Not saying this will cure your friend, as I don't know what the underlying causes are, but it might be worth a shot.

Any physical discpline (yoga, Tai Chi) might help as well or exercise (swimming, aerobics) might help as well.

My goodness, that is an awful affliction. I am not a doctor, but I can tell you what works for me, or has worked for me in the past.

Firstly, I keep my pillow scented with lavender or hops. This is quite potent in itself.

Now, something that helped me to sleep better, a few years back, was colonic therapy. I recommend this. If your friend is squeamish about squirting a little water up their butt, tell them they do not seem worried about what goes in their mouth! Now I am just guessing about this because diet plays a huge role in our sleeping patterns. For example, do they drink alot of coffee or pop? Caffine intake is a large factor in sleeplessness.

A magikal way to deal with this would be to set up a time when they would like to go to bed and do a ritual, a simple ritual, at that same time everynight to invoke sleep. Something like:

1. Shower and change into nightwear
2. Make a cammomile tea
3. Light a candle and burn some Rosemary or Lavender incense
4. While the tea cools, do some deep breathing exercises
5. Ask deity or power-that-be, to give a restful night of sleep and pleasent dreams. (I suggest Morpheus, but maybe you want to do some research into the pantheon of your friend's choice.)
6. Ask the deity to bless the tea (Really, a glass of water could be used, but the effects of chammomile is conducive to sleep so, why not use it?)
7. Drink tea, thank the deity

It is simple, but if done everynight for two weeks, there should be some noticable effects. The ritual will start to que the mind for sleep quite automatically after awhile.

Now, I do not necessarily recommend a sigil for this situation. It seems that could work but, I think a mandala would be a better alternative. If your friend uses a picture across from their bed, where they can see it, of a landscape or even stylized mandala that is very relaxing or of a realm they would like to visit, they might be more likely to want to sleep. This is a good way to turn the mind from the everyday world to the dreamtime. This is also a que for the mind and can also be used as a gateway to dreaming realms.

Minor trick I read from an NLP book: If he's kept awake by his brain chattering away, have him allow his internal voice to keep going, but have it speak in a dull, slow, quiet monotone. That way it becomes a boring internal monologue instead of an exciting, sleep-replacing one.

I don't know how effective this is; I'm not as insomniac as I used to be.
