Spinning off from The Golem thread, has anyone read this book by Angelo Maria Ripellino? It's a non-fiction look at all the different magical and/or folklorish stories to build up around Prague. Ripellino's style is very lyrical and image-laden, and extremely evocative. Written while the Communists were still in power, so also has that kind of subdued quality about it.
Lots of stuff about the Golem, John Dee, Prague's rich literature heritage. Very dreamlike as well, interweaving fact and fiction into a beautifully flowing narrative. Recommended. |
