Has anyone seen this? I saw a preview last night (it doesn't open in Australia until April) and went along expecting to hate it - am not a Jennifer Aniston fan. She's really terrible, I think. But, to my surprise, it wasn't bad. She was pretty good in it, playing a yokel check-out-chick. Jake Gyllenhaal is in it, and he's playing another damaged boy, but... hmm.

More thoughts when I've organised them. Anyone got something to say?

I thought it was an odd little film in which Jennifer's character and image collided sometimes quite well, but sometimes with tremendously unconvincing results. I just couldn't believe her behaviour at the end - that's not what I thought she'd DO, and I think that's because of the fact that I couldn't divorce her from Aniston's character in Friends. Similarly with the blackberries - i couldn't believe she'd do that either...

I quite liked it, because I don't watch Friends all that much (1) and her character reminds me of people I knew growing up (2).
I could buy the blackberries thing, but only as a kind of shocking surprise - it's out of character for her, and I think she acknowledges that through subsequent actions which I won't reveal here for fear of spoiler action.
Jake Glynnenhall is fucking amazing, but the best acting came from the painters, Aniston's character's husband and buddy (the dudes from PT Anderson and "O, Brother"). They completely sold me. And they made Aniston look pretty good, too.

Grant; you're right about the painters. They make it work. The husband's not the ogre he's meant to be - he's just a dork, and we can see it, a poor blotting-out dick. And his friend, who just wants to be a slut, of course.

I'd not actually realised how .. uh .. ugly, Tim Blake Nelson is before, though...

I can't imagine how you missed it all this time.

His friends say he's ugly: he's got a masculine face.

Heh.

Aw, come on. Delmar was cute, in a kind of wet way.

(But has he got real scars?)
