Robbie Williams - Escapology

= the modern day Smiths?

Because "Feel" decribes my malaise to a tee.

Or am I alone.

Let's think.

The Smiths were talented musicians, who wrote excellent music.

Robbie Williams isn't, and can't. I've heard most of that album in the bar a few nights ago, and found it very weak indeed - I mean, I don't like him, but that's the best he can do? Feel's probably the strongest track, and that's sad. I love the piano riff, but hate the rest of the song.

You are joking, aren't you?

On the front he is hung upside down and looks like he may be in pain and that it may snap and he will fall and hurt. This gives me a happy.

Ahhh, "talent" again...

I don't think Robbie's the new Smiths - I think the motivation, dynamic, aesthetic and fanbase are utterly different - but I don't think your argument, Paleface, is a particularly strong or meaningful one here.

I wouldn't say it was meant to be strong, Ganesh; it is, after all, a glib one-liner.

But I'd stand by it; I'm not convinced of any talent bar a lot of money to blow on production. What I've heard of the new album is bland, derivative, and unconvincing. And doesn't even have the strength of some of the previous numbers; Feel seems to be being marketed as a kind of new-Angels, and it's nowhere near good enough to do that with. Williams doesn't have a hope in hell of breaking into America if this is his calling card.

robbie is very angry.
at the same time he's quite boring.
today he was on the telly on channel 1 and 3 at the same time! so he's quite overexposed.
so, yeah, there are some similarities betwixt him and the smiths (but not music wise).
