What symbol?!
Fortunately, I have it drawn out, but unfortunately I do not know how to paste it onto a post. If someone could illuminate me before I log off, I could place it on here for your viewing pleasure

Well....if it exist on the internet, it should work out if you use this formula, but with pointy brackets instead of the square brackets I am using.

Some sites restrict access, in which case try this to link directly to it:

[a href="URL of image (which you can get by right-clicking on the image (if you are using Windows, and selecting "properties")"]the picture[/a]

If you have drawn it, scan it in (if it is drawn on paper) and put it on your web space. If you have no web space, PM me, and I will try to put it up....

Thankyou Lurpi.
Thankyou Haus.
It would be good if anyone could tell me if they know what this symbol means, for I have not the foggiest, though it is of some import.

P.S. Could some kindly moderator please delete my posts between Haus and Lurpi, though perhaps you could keep the one where a thank Haus, that being more polite. I've managed to turn this post into a shambles due to my incompetance. Please hide my shame.

fourtyeight, if you stumble- make it a part of the dance.

It sort of looks to my like a tripping person's rendition of the chaos star simplified with a twist.

You know... four cardinal directions, none defined as north... with an extra direction to confuse. Or maybe the extra spur is a path of escape velocity and the perpendicular spurs are just axis.

Of course, if the extra spur is interprited as north, it would signify a different realitve world. Perhaps where the poles are significantly different, which would mean the extra spike is the key to getting back home.

These are all just first impressions, mind. No reserch done. But if you tell WHY it's important, I'd be happy to do some work on it. I'm sure others might as well, especially if my second idea proved fruitfull. Dimensional key sigils are ALWAYS fun.

Yes, if it were a cardnal map, the diagonal spur would indicate an additional dimentional axis at a right angle to the plane drawn originally. So, that diagonal would in 3D space be pointing right up at you. But that it spurs from the west rather than the center is signifigant. A map, perhaps, of/to a particular plane? The west gate is the domain of Azrael and the land of the dead, traditionally. So it may relate to that somehow.

More importantly, what does it mean to you when you look at it? Your instincts are often the most reliable source for this sort of thing.

Looks to me like the classic "Four Directions" symbol in American Indian mythology/spirituality - many prayers are begun by praying to the North, the South, the East, and the West. This symbol could indicate the totality of all Creation. Also, it seems to me to imply power/energy emanating from the Center, in all directions. Are you engaged in some sort of act of magickal creation, or reflecting on your connection with Creation itself?

The addition of the diagonal northwest arrow says to either a leaning towards the left side (i.e. left brained activity? the past, emotions?) or maybe an inverted sign of woman (or both). You know how the symbol for the female has the diagonal arrow in the northeastern quadrant?

So that's my take on this symbol - hope it's helpful. Can you tell us more about how this symbol came up for you?

You might get some joy at this website: symbols.com. I had a look, but couldn't source it myself though.

Anyway, the website is a brilliant resource for details on various symbols and signs and perfect for sigil ideas.

Thankyou.
For backstory, I can tell you that this symbol has been cropping up regularly in recurring dreams. The instance is always the same. In some kind of mock-egyptian temple, done up in polished marble, this symbol is inset in the floor, surrounding a pedestal 4 feet high or so. I stand on the arrow opposite from the double-pointer. There stands a good friend of mine, always the same person. On either side stand his girlfriend and my sister, and we all lay our hands on the pedestal. My friend will then go into a trance, before his eyes roll back into his head. In an alien voice he cries out "Kill _____" (My middle name used by friends and family) before proceeding to strangle me to death.
To me, this symbol represents really bad things, hence my concern at having it identified. Thanks again

I had a dream with this symbol last night... and this was before I read your post about it being in your dreams. I don't really remember much detail only that it was etched onto a wall by where I was standing and the my friend came running up to me with a little fortune cookie slip of paper and she was pretty distraut. When I read the paper it said something like "Jackie is going to die." Needless to say it fucked me up (and I don't even know a jackie!), but I'm going to ask her about it... I think she has a cousin named Jackie.

Weird. I wonder if anyone else who's been on this thread has had any death/symbol themes running through their dreams.

Going with Hunter's observation that it looks like the Four Directions... Something Remembrunce said in the Outer Church thread over in the Comic Book section made me think of this symbol.

Remembrunce- You know, from "above" - the direction you can't (as Mr. Harlequin put it) point to.

If these are the four directions maybe that extra arrow is the direction you can't point to.

It struck me immediately that the symbol looked liked 5/8’s of a chaosphere, a sort of map of magic or tree of life type construct used most notably by Peter Carroll. If we presume that the “double point” part was “north,” which would be logical to me if you were furthest from that point and thus “south” of the chaosphere, then the arrow shooting off at the angle would represent death magic in most renderings of the chaosphere.

This may mesh well with your description of the death threats in the dream.

For further research, Chaosmagic.com has a webpage devoted to the chaosphere. This Site also has a modified version of the chaosphere called the kaosphere which I just discovered and which may be a better map. Both sites have visual representations of the map that may be helpful.

Liber Kaos, by Carroll, is the sourcebook for much of the information on the chaosphere and it’s children.

The pressing question in my mind is: what color is the symbol in your dream?

Gah! It's part of a flowchart! Get it away from me!

I need to second cusm here, and I think if we're going to help out we need more detail than has been provided - specifically, on your emotional state during the dream. Be careful here: we need to know what you felt during the dream as accurately as possible, without any of your emotional response filtering in from after.

Please, be as detailed as you can. But bear in mind, this is a public forum and you may not want to pursue it in this amount of depth in front of, well, anyone and everyone. Up to you.

I'm quite happy to reveal more detail. It's all too surreal to be particularly personal.

Before the ritual with the symbol, I had gone to get a Big Mac at the Mcdonalds next door to this temple (this seemed irrelevant at the time) with the other participants. A short Indian man had taken my money, then proceeded to ignore me and deal with the oher customers. I became unusually abusive, and he dealt me my order very quickly after that. However he then said, to a word (I am typing up what I wrote down straight after waking up), "One day I'm going to find you and take you down".
I then notice one of his co-workers is shaking his fist at me. He turns out to be someone I went to Junior school with (exp: to drop another clue, this was Bitterne Junior School).
My emotional state is very detached so far, and the abusive behaviour was an act.
We are then in the temple. Polished marble of various shades of beige. A pyramidal structure with open wings. The symbol is inlaid polished black stone in the marble floor, while the pedestal is grey.
I feel some trepidation. Events take place as in the previous post, and I am passive and composed as the life is squeezed out of me. Inevitably I woke up on the point of death.

I'm pretty sure that I know what this means but I could be wrong.

First I thought that it was a chaosphere but what bothered me was the extra line didn't fit. It didn't look like a chaosphere at all with the placement of that extra arrow.

And so I looked at it and thought. One observation was that it was a circle with arrows sticking out of it. So i realized that it might be a clue. Arrows. Arrows represent movement. And a circle represents equal distance in all size. So then I startyed thinking about the mystery of the fifth arrow until I realized what it represented. The 5th arrows points AT US. Outwards. From 2d to 3d. So then, what could the symbol mean?

An infinitly expanding object or plane. Since one can't draw a space/object of infinite size then one does the best to represent it. As a circle (all points are equal distance from the centre. That means equal distribution) and arrows pointing in all three dimensions. That is infinitly expanding in all three dimensions.

going on straight intuition here...had this concept when i first looked at the symbol, got the feeling i was on to something when i read about your dream. thought i should post before i forget the meaning in mind.

circle is you. interaction with the world, etc. arrows showing interaction. going by elemental definitions for the arrows, you get south, east, north, and double west. add the (from what i've seen) traditional meanings to the elements of
south=courage/fire
east=inspiration/wind
north=wisdom/earth
west=death or change/water
and an interesting pattern emerges. This ties in with the constant death instances that repeat themselves....

Interestingly, though not much has changed in the last couple of months, a life changing opportunity has appeared. I can't think of any particular threats to my continued existence though, or anyone else I know for that matter. As in the dream, I am currently raising a lot of peoples hackles, including the would-be stranglers. Perhaps the dream was some kind of warning concerning this strife.

One thing though. I was not aware which direction was which in the dream, other than that the double arrow point was where the ritual was led from. The orientation is purely how I drew it when I woke up. The symbol always appeared horizontally hence my confusion

I have. I've had a series of rather prosaic and intensely emotional death dreams over the last couple of weeks, though I think they predate my reading of this thread. I've died in a plane crash, murdered and concealed the body of an ex-girlfriend, and found a murdered monster at a dinner party. I've also had dreams about drastic physical transformations, which is a sort of death dream (right?)

I had a doosy on the 21st about the world having been taking over by zombies. Involved a good deal of killing zombies, a la Night of the Living Dead movies. Probably unrelated, but chalking it up for the score.

I have an unusual update.

While drinking with some friends of mine tonight, I was asked why I had said something to one of them. My mother later asked me why I had said another. It might be helpful to do this in chronological order.

21st morning: The dream detailed above.

22nd morning: Fragmented dream "Dir Rohib", "Artichoke", and interestingly, with regard to the other thread, "26". Unfortunately this was so fragmented that a few words were all I could recall.

22nd evening: After getting rather inebriated at a pub in )Bitterne Park, I had called a friend of mine (the one in the dream, and asked if he wanted to go to a club called The Dungeon. So far so normal. However I then started talking about how the Tower of Babel was about to collapse. This I cannot remember. I was drunk so that is not particularly unusal, but interesting in regards to the incident below.

23rd evening: I have a normal conversation with another friend about going to a pub called the Hobbit. After putting down the phone, my mother nearby asked me why I had just said what I had said. Confused, I asked what. Apparently, and this is backed up by the person on the phone, I had stated, "Don't bother calling me, I don't exist anymore"
Perhaps this was something I have forgotten saying, were it not for this conversation occurring straight after I had replaced the receiver.
NB: In was sober in this instance.
