Do any of you have hobbies that you hate?

A strange question perhaps, but it occurred to me today I have managed to collect a fair few myself, and wondered to wht extent this is the case with others.
For instance, I have been rowing for the last two years, but I consider it only vaguely preferable to the dentist. Of course you could say that you could take up a hobby one did not enjoy to benefit in other ways. I expressly mean those with no benefit, or perhaps better worded, those with no discernible benefit.

I love the question. What odd ones we humans are. Mechanics. I hate getting my hands greasy and carving my nuckles to shreds. So, at a friends one day I see a Jeep in a pile in the barn, buy it for a couple hundred, and then spend 7 months making it functional. Now I drive it often and tinker with it oftener. Driving it on the freeway terrifies me.

Bloody buggering circuit. Now what the hell's wrong with you? I've just checked all those links. That bit goes there, which goes to pin one of the IC... the power supply was working yesterday... yep, it's still working... oh, shit, don't tell me I've blown up the IC... nope, that works... shit! Short circuit. Damn, now I've toasted the LED... hang on, that shouldn't be getting hot... Arghhh. There's a short in the actual breadboard... I must stop using this sodding nicked prototype board... now I've got to replace the BC108... I've been at this for three hours straight and-- wait.

Wait.

Yes! YERRRRSSS! It works! It's working! I'm INWINCEABLE!

*Phut*

Shit.

Yeah, anything remotely technical does it for me. For humiliating evidence of this, please smirk at my post about symbols on the Magick Forum. Whats wrong with abaci, and rodent driven vehicles.......Damn! Thats mechanical too.

I'd have to say my art stuff but it has become my means of earning the cash. When it comes to my art Im a complete and absolute perfectionist and any time I hand it anything that I dont consider A1 top10 quality I feel cheapenned even if the client thinks its the greatest thing since sliced bread. I could take a simple project and rework it until the end of days looking for the quintesscential moment when it is at its peak of perfectitude...Ive been in tears/pulling out the hair at times when things didn't meet what I wanted out of it. I hate it. I hate it and I cant live without it...

More of a habit than a hobby, but I really hate talking to people. I always get the feeling that at least one of us is terminally stupid, possibly more.

Nosepicking. It's become more of an obsession than a hobby, really.

(similarly off-topic) yeah .. some of them are really good - the one's that reprint old (particularly pre-Lovecraft) stuff are great - but on the whole I find myself slogging through about 10 unbelievably unimaginative/dull/badly written stories for every one that's worthwhile..

Totally, but that isn't necesarily a bad thing. Pleasure isn't the only route ot happiness. Sacrifice, sweat, working at things you don't enjoy at the time to get closer to something bigger.

So you have Epicurus who would say -
"the body rejoices so as it feels a pleasure which is present"

whereas Aristotle would say -

"the good for human kind is an activity of the soul in accordance with virtue."

or GK Chesterton -

"happiness is a mystery lie religion, and should never be rationalized"

So yeah, you don't have to like or enjoy a hobby to get something really positive out of it.
