Spider associations

I've been pretty low key about my practice of late. Mostly, I've been just trying to watch for synchronicities and associations that might be the Universe trying to tell me something.

So, yesterday and the day before 23s were popping up a bit, which usually (to me) is indicative of either minor weirdness or happy coincidence on the way.

Last night, post-gym, I was sitting by the computer, massaging a sore neck and having a drink, when I felt something scrabbling at my upper lip. Muffled curse, frantic slapping with my hand, and a pale amber spider about the size of a dime falls into my lap, where it begins crawling erratically across the blanket laid there. (Can spiders get drunk? It seemed to be changing direction almost at random, and it had just been apparently swimming in a 50/50 mix of pepsi and Bacardi 151, which is enough to make anyone unsteady)

I brushed it off the blanket (gently enough that it wasn't hurt, vigorously enough that it flew out of my range of vision) and went back to my previous bit of entertainment.

Anyway, the reason for this post: What sorts of associations or symbolism do spiders have? If this was an attempt at a message of some sort, I'd like to keep an eye out for thematically similar coincidences, to either confirm or deny.

Grandmother Spider to the Native Americans of the Southeast.
Anansi the storyteller to West Africans.

There are other classics as well. Some might surprise you.

Can't forget the lingam protection, either.
