Black holes already warp the "fabric of space", but these guys are apparently huge. I was under the impression that the existence of black holes was not completely decided in the astrophysics community - that may be out of date - but perhaps a black hole is any sufficiently massive object.

I think they're relative sure there's a big one at the center of the galaxy. Not sure-sure, but most of the recent observations point that way.

I may be prejudiced because most of what I read about it is for use in the tabloid press.

I was amused by this illustration. Not only are the black holes not black, but they're not even colliding or anything. So it'a really just a picture of two circles with a cool outer space background.

The black holes are in the middle, the light you see is the waves that escape the gravitational(?) pull of it...

Actually, chances are that illustration is showing the escaping X-rays as visual light.
