Nope, not Spanish, me. It has been bad and it looks like it's going to get worse, with more slicks to come from the breached wreck of the tanker.
Horrible. Very depressing scenes on tv of the wildlife and the local people reliant upon it for a livelihood despairing.
Does seem to have been an awful lot of fingerpointing about this Latvian rustbucket and how it was heading for Gibraltar. UK Government seems quite sure it hasn't been there in the last five years and wasn't en route there but elsewhere - I heard Singapore on the news last night.
Natural to want to blame someone when you feel, understandably, so aggrieved though. It is going to be years before the local ecology and economy regenerate. Maybe this disaster will propel a few more to exploit fuels other than oil and lessen our reliance upon it. |
