So -by way of Promethea, I've developed an interest in Kabbalah, and thus the corresponding Tarot. I've got a real grasp on the relationships between the Major Arcana being between the sephiroths, but I'm at a loss to simply interpret the Minors.

I understand the relationships of Wands/Fire/Will and the other elements, but is there a simple way to remember the numeral cards and their signifying scenarios? I've searched over the net and I haven't found many results that work within my understanding.

I'm aware that the ten numeral cards correspond to the ten sephiroth, but -here's an example... how can the 3 of swords (understanding/compassion of logic/reason/thinking) equal Sorrow? Even if I throw that out for a more logical interpetation system, I've not been able to find a clear system of association between sephiroths and numerals.

Can anyone help me?

While I am a Tarot reader, I seem to have missed the boat on PROMETHTEA...

WTF is it?

It's one of America's Best Comics, written by Alan Moore(Watchmen and Swamp Thing and a plethora of other things)

It's his distilled and re-invigorated version of Wonder Woman. Promethea, the lead character, is a superheroine with powers of bringing the imagination into reality. Wonder Woman had Greek mythology, Promethea trumps it by encapsulating all of human thought. Recently, Promethea learned about Tarot and journeyed through the ten Sephiroth.

I turned to the Internet to learn more about Kaballah. Two months later... here I am.

I'm not sure what you are asking here, Chesed. Are you asking for help to memorize that the three of swords is sorrow or are you asking why the three of swords is sorrow?

The system is one of mapping element to sepheroth. 1->10 are Kether->Malchuth, and each suit corresponds to an element. So for the 3 of swords, you have Binah in Air. Or, The limiting understanding of intelligence, the understanding of limits, and hence sorrow, as a glossy interpretation. That's the basic system, anyway.

I'm asking the latter, Reverend. And cusm is with me in his explanation. I guess the part that I either was not afforded or neglected was the word "limiting". Would that mean I should include the word "expanded" with numbers 2, 4, and 7? And "a balance" with numbers 1, 6, 9 and 10?

I see how a "limited" understanding(3) of the intellect(swords) would produce Sorrow. I suppose that the Thelemic one word answers for the numeral cards are more descriptive of the effect, than describing a cause.

Linguisitically and philosophically, how/where does the concept of "limiting" fall on the tree of life? Is it consistant with the pillar of severity? I suppose that makes sense...

It is somewhat a matter of the pillar of severity, in that the two pillars are the competing forces of limitation and expansion. However, limiting is often more a function of discretion, identification, and naming. For example, law. Binah is in many ways the primal force of "no", which gives birth to manifestation by creating limits for what otherwise would be the endless expansion of energy in Chochma, as well as being the sea into which this energy flows.

At the top of each pillar, Chochma and Binah represent the ideals of limiting and expansion, much as the opposition of yin and yang, which are probably better symbols to compare them with. The concept is continued below in the tree, but with more a focus on manifestation as you approach Malchuth. So, you have Gebura as Law and Control, and then Hod as science and knowlege (information). On the right, expansion yields to Chesed in Mercy and Kindness to balance The severity of Gebura, and then Netzach as sensitivity and the experiential opposing the theoretical of Hod.

So "limiting" is really more a part of the primal duality with expansion, which is expanded upon in the spheres below.
