A companion to the Meeting Characters in The Oh So Loose Beyond: A Survey thread.

Many of us have a great deal of experience in other realms. Now, some of this experience must remain private, but it occurs to me that a great deal could be useful shared information, helping us to be able to find our way around to a greater degree, teaching us more about the possibilites that are open to us when we journey/project/dream (etc).

My main questions to begin with are:

- Draw a broad, generalised cosmology/geography of the planes that you visit. We can always go into more detail later.

- What modes of transport do you use? What ways do you have of getting from A to B?

- Are there any landmarks or important locations that you feel a broad group of people should know about? Describe them, and the inhabitants if necessary.

I know they're ambiguous questions. Knock yourselves out.

Tourist? Does the Otherworld really go for tourism? I suppose it depends...sort of like one can visit New York City and take the Lexington Avenue train, and depending on one's knowledge of the MTA can either end up in the shiny, expensive, tourist-friendly Upper East Side, or get distracted, miss a few stops and end up in the decidedly different South Bronx.

I mention trains because for me, when visitng other realms (either in dreams or via other methods), I usually find myself taking a train of some sort. Most often a subway/tube train, with the chthonic references that associate themselves with underground trains, but ever so often a lovely overground rail-type train will show up to take me to my destination & back.

I've also had an occasional night bus, and recently I've found myself walking home, by choice, with an escort who leaves me at my door but never comes in.

Not sure where to start in terms of a "broad, generalized cosmology" -- I should think it's somewhat personalized, and therefore different for each individual. but I'll venture to say that my psyche-scapes are quite urbanized; no rolling meadows, blasted heaths or soothing seaside scenarios.

There is a place I used to visit and kinda miss now. A plane/t that is half in darkness and the other half in light for half their year. The lanscape in the light is lush and beautiful. THe dark side is dead, as if it was in a winter of darkness. THe inhabitants change also. When they are in the light times, they dress in fine apparell with bright colours and gold trim. In the dark times, they morph into slick, black skinned winged creatures that reminded me of gargolyes. I fly in this realm easily.

ANother place I visit is alot like a Roger Dean painting, hanging islands in space. I hop from one island to the next. It is like a world that has adapted to a catastrophe, one that left it in pieces.

Of course there are the fluid realms which I find hard to even describe here. Liquid air and swim-flying.

May Tricks:

I actually think I know the place you're talking about. Does it have a reddish sky, look a bit like the desert? And you can fly low off the ground on your back?

Yep, that sounds right. Of course, the desert is only a desert in the darkness. When the Light part of the year comes, the whole place blooms. I think the redness comes from one of the moons but I have not noticed the redness during the light times.

THe low-level flying is fun you can do alot of spinning and swooping there. As you can imagine, there is no public transportaion there, everyone flies or transports themselves. I have actually been to a place with Public transportation, it was free too...maybe that was just Rutland, Vermont though...heh

I have a couple of acquaintances that saw those Venetian-like domes that are described in Castaneda's The Second Ring of Power. They seemed to be quite for away for them.

I used to gather with a group of dreamers at a particular house which I came to knew and map quite consensually with the others as the months went by. Actually, the others already knew the house before I came in. The house and its nearby locations were hold in its place by a sorcerer already at the other side. I got there by simply falling asleep, and either dreamt or lucid-dreamt while in there, sometimes many times in a night. Later I intendedly stopped visiting it. I could give the descriptions, but it was overally a nice countryside house.

I am visiting pretty stable locations these days, but mostly my daily life dramatizations are going on there. You can think of The Universal Antibody I wrote about as a navigational tool.

Actually I should mention the dreamworld I was experiencing when I was living in Brooklyn. Basically, it was a type of "dream Brooklyn." The whole place was amazingly constant throughout a lot of my dreams and involved a movie theatre run by my friends (not in RL but in the dream) which didn't play new releases but instead played old Warner Brothers cartoons and old films and stuff. And the seating was nothing like a normal movie theatre.
