November 17 I will go to the UK. at least some of this time I will stay in the London and I suppose unless some very generous 'lithers might open their homes that I will stay in a hostel.

When I was researching places to stay in London, I came across the

Hotel Strand Continental.

I myself did not stay there, but I heard it was quite inexpensive and the food was good. I think it's cash-only, however.

Here's another link.

Many museums are free in London, so definitely make the most of them. Top of the list would be the British Museum – and you'll need more than one day to see most of the good stuff. (You can't really go wrong with the Rosetta Stone, Lindow Man and the Parthenon Marbles!)

There are also a few cheap hotels in Bayswater -- get a Lonely Planet guide, I shouldn't think you'll go far wrong.

The Tate Modern and The London Eye are as good as anything if you're only here for a flying visit.

I lived in London for 5 months, but on my touristy days I really dug the Tate Modern. The only thing about the British Museum is that it is so fucking huge; I've been there twice and still haven't found the Rosetta Stone. As an alternative, try the hefty gift shop, which my friends and I call British Museum Lite. At the National Portrait Gallery you can get some pretty sweet postcards of david bowie and samuel beckett, which is all I care about really.

A friend of mine stayed at one of the Astor hostels (the quest, I think) and reportedly, it is not at all dodgy.

There's a new YHA place in King's Cross, on the Euston Road opposite the new British Library (which has a lovely bookshop). It'll probably be a good price, but be careful in that area as it's junkie city....

Hehe, yes. Just think of it as our Times Square. But people do live and work there, so just be sensible, not paranoid.
