browsing at a local record shop a few days ago, i found a mystery c.d. in the bjork section by a band called K.U.K.L. (i think). it was crass record release in 1984 or something. i didn't buy it. i think i will, though if it is any kind of bjork/crass marriage.

anyone know about it?

According to my research, iut looks as if Kukl were a pre- (or proto-) Sugarcubes band featuring Bjork and Einar.

Nine bands have been on Crass Records, some but not all with some sort of musical connection to Crass the band. Kukl seems to have had nothing in common with Crass but a record label and sensibility.

I seem to remember it's excellent- but I haven't heard the album for years so can't remember too well.

Incidental brain-dump info, which might be wrong: following the demise of Crass, some of the ex-members formed the band Flux of Pink Indians, who released the infamous "The ******* ***** treat us like ******" album (which was a big mess of horrible noise). Ex-members of Crass - possibly the same ones - were later responsible for setting up the One Little Indian label, which released the early Sugarcubes records. They also released stuff by their own band, Flux, which I'm guessing was Flux of Pink Indians renamed. The stuff I've heard by them was very different to Crass and FOPI, being the sort of thing you might expect to hear on 4AD, and which would probably appeal to fans of the Sugarcubes. Used samples, trumpets and that. Did a really lovely minimal track called "The Stonecutter".

Duh, me. Should've looked at Jack's flipping link:

I was sort of nearly there, ish.

Did someone just say "Bjork/Crass marriage"?

I love marriage.

If anyone's at all interested, Einar was on the first single by Ornamental (basically Hilmar Orn Hilmarsson, longtime Psychic TV associate, and Rose McDowall of Strawberry Switchblade, Psychic TV, Current 93, Spell, Sorrow, and Stoatie's "musical crushes hall of fame" fame). He played trumpet and shouted, as I recall.

"No Pain", I think it was called.

It was pretty good, actually.
